SEQ:  Community engagement by QR Passenger Services acknowledged and appreciated

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport users has acknowledged and thanked QR Passenger Services for the ongoing community engagement activities, and responding to the impacts caused by the necessary  weekend track closures in a supportive manner.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

?RAIL Back On Track has received much feedback from the public and members commenting on the positive aspects of QR Passenger Services community engagement activities throughout this year.?

?The community appreciates the opportunity to put forward suggestions for improvements on matters such as timetables, station facilities, parking, integration of services and so forth.?

?This weekend has seen the closure of the main western line from Corinda to Ipswich for rail passenger services.  Bus has been substituted for rail. As Saturday the 14th of June was the Annual Ipswich Cup Meeting there was much community concern on the potential adverse impacts of the closure on the cup (1).?

?QR Passenger services responded by engaging the concerned community representatives and ensuring that  additional buses would be made available to facilitate transport to and from the Cup Meeting, and also had extra staff in place at Corinda Railway Station and arranged for extra TransLink Transit Officers to assist at the Ipswich Turf Club.?

?I personally checked the arrangements during the Saturday at Corinda, Oxley and Darra.  All was working well.  QR also updated us as during the day too.?

?RAIL Back On Track acknowledges the efforts being made by QR Passenger services and we look forward to being able input further suggestions for timetable changes in September and future timetable change points.?

?Favourable comments have also been received and noted on some excellent communication practices by train crew and station staff during service issues that do arise from time to time.?

?These initiatives are welcome and further help citizens make the move to environmental friendly public transport."

?Thank you QR Passenger Services.?
