CORE FREQUENT NETWORK (BUS)
591 Garden City to Inala via Sunnybank and Coopers Plains Rail

This proposal connects the busway and Garden City to the Gold Coast and Beenleigh lines.

People wishing to travel to the Gold Coast or Beenleigh lines often have to backtrack into Brisbane to catch the service or perform two transfers (bus to beenleigh train then beenleigh train to Gold Coast Train). There needs to be decent access to the Gold Coast and Beenliegh lines. The current connecting services are neither frequent nor direct and as a result are illegible.

The feeder catchment for this new service will be the busway plus any buses that serve Garden City and also Mains Road services (through a transfer). Passengers will no longer have to catch a bus to Brisbane and then the train back again.

Destinations
* Garden City
* Sunnybank
* Acacia Ridge (handy service to get to Inala shops, Garden City & Beenleigh/GC lines)
* Inala

Service would be timed to meet all Gold Coast Trains. Proposed frequency 30 minutes at least.

This service will allow the Great Circle Line to be 'steam ironed' and run via Kessels Road/Riaweena/(Lillian or Henson Ave)/ Muriel Ave

QuoteTo Inala?  Surely Darra would be a bigger priority.

It is already quite a lengthy route (17 km, which is about the same distance as the SE busway).
Could buses from Richlands and Darra that could serve this purpose?
If you disagree, start another thread with a proposed route, and diagram.

To go even further, I would be happy if this route was half the size and simply shuttled passengers from Garden City to Sunnybank to Coopers Plains Rail station.

Simon, if you wanted something to go to Darra, it would need to be FAST, so I would suggest via the motorway to Darra station.
But then it might not have enough pax.

I did, here: http://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=7188.new#new

I suppose that map probably shows it accessing Coopers Plains Railway Station from the wrong side, but oh well.

You do realize that there might be a chance that the stopping pattern of the Gold Coast trains could change in 2012?

I have an inkling that Coopers Plains station may not be used by Gold Coast trains eventually...?

Peak GC trains would have a higher chance of having their patterns changed, most likely to maximise full capacity south of the Merivale.  Off-peak GC, can go either way.  Although a personal preference is to all-stop them to Yeerongpilly in the off-peak to form a 15 min frequency in off-peak in the inner section, whilst leaving the DG for cross-town freights.

Inala is more of a shopping/residential destination. Darra is more of a transit destination.

There would be merit in a '591' actually running through to Darra too IMHO, particularly if and when the Ipswich car park is upgraded Darra to Rocklea, there will be direct road underneath, Scotts Road.  In the meantime run it through to Richlands instead of Darra, after Inala.
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...

It's always possible.  Will an alternate stop be implemented?

Anything is possible, especially with a rail timetable review pending.  Personally I'd hold off coming up with any new ideas to connect with the Gold Coast line until we know more about what QR is thinking of doing with the stopping pattern, especially since they now know of the bus corridors along Mains Rd and Warrigal Rd thanks to some feedback from the recent online sessions and online feedback.

I think it would be easier if the trains stopped at Altandi (better connection to BUZ 130 etc). I think there needs to be emphasis though that the concept of a direct, fast connection between the Gold Coast/Beeneligh lines and Garden City/The SE Busway is required to prevent backtrack. I could come up with all manner of specific routes, but the general idea is what is important.

I think I've mentioned this before, but it would also help with Griffith Uni students getting between the two campuses (Nathan and Gold Coast).  I have heard calls for this before and I do remember having classes between the two campuses myself when I was there in 2010, which makes things annoying but it's just the logistics of the university to get the subjects taught.  With Altandi there is routes 135 and 145, all that is needed is better signage to the stop from the station and vice versa.

If Gold Coast passengers need better access to Garden City, then perhaps Fruitgrove would make a better station for the Gold Coast trains to stop at (150 etc to Garden City; 155 to Griffith Uni).

Interesting route but there are some potential issues I can see.  The first is that it doesn't travel via Elizabeth St shops which is a major node in Acacia Ridge.  The second is it duplicates other services alot, particularly the 122 and 126 (although to be fair it's an infrequent service).  I think the 122 does ok in it's current form.  From memory it does tend to go through Coopers Plains at a time conducive to changing to a Gold Coast train during the day at least.

If you wanted a quick routing, then the 126 route would be good although it would bypass a large amount of housing.  I always thought the 126 could be extended via Padstow & Miles Platting Road (perhaps with a diversion via the Brisbane Technology Park) and then join the busway at Eight Mile Plains and run up to Garden City.  Perhaps an extention at the Acacia Ridge end too is possible (although for convenience I had Willawong Depot in mind lol).  The best way to connect from the bottom end of Acacia Ridge would be straight across via Inala and Richlands to Wacol Station.
