Option 1

Rosewood service, if there is a train service in Brisbane that could be converted to DOO with short notice and one that is worthy of such an operation, surely this is it?
- Low patronage,
- Captive short distance 3 car shuttle operation,
- Straight platforms,
- Low % and numbers of non-local users
- Manned stations at the terminus at Ipswich and during the week Rosewood.
- While low height platforms, fixed ramps could be provided where the first car always stops.

Through trains from Brisbane would not be affected.

A few sets could be modified to make them more suitable for DOO including mirrors and/or radio CCTV.

Cost of guards for two shifts a day 7 days week. Assume $100kpa for total overhead costs = 4.3 x $100kpa = $430kpa. Minus what ever extra longterm costs.

During morning and afternoon peaks the total usage is 308 according in station by station count or 221 in AM and 110 PM (I don't know why they are different). So to put some perspective on this, the state would save nearly $2000pa per commuter of the Rosewood line.

The patronage is higher than that.  Those figures don't seem correct to me.  There is a considerable school load that may bias the morning figures as well.  Yesterday there would have been 70 pax on an inbound out of peak train, that arrived at Ipswich at 10.26am.  I get out there every now and then and you would be surprised at the numbers.

I cannot see DOO being an option at present.  The LNP has said no in any case.

I travelled along line in a rail motor with only a driver often enough ...  :)

Yes,  DOO has been raised by QR themselves a number of times, Governments themselves seem to be reluctant.  ATP might be seen as a stumbling block, or the other costs to set up.

Union backlash maybe?

Aren't we paying a whole pile of TCs up in townsville to do nothing when there is no work? (and their contacts don't include a relocation clause)

Possibly a factor.  I would like to see paper removed, that way it is lot easier to spot those not paying ...
