Compared to Sydney trains, what over crowding?

Perhaps people who are complaining over crowding on Brisbane Trains and the time it takes, should try Sydney trains and then they would know what over crowding is all about and then they would stop whining about the so called over crowding on Brisbane trains.

As in the photo shows at least Caroline Rowland could read a book (Standing room only November 16, 2006 11:00pm http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,20772378-3102,00.html) where on Sydney Trains during peak hour you cannot even do this and many people are travelling up to 2 hours if not longer one way standing up all the way, which is what?

From The Gold Coast to Brisbane and back to The Gold Coast in one go?

Hi kwv,

Welcome to RAIL Back On Track

The overcrowding is something we can avoid with better scheduling and increased frequency.  It is all relative, the fact that the overcrowding may be worse in Sydney is one issue.  The NSW Premier has just announced some huge upgrades to services there.

The overcrowding in Brisbane is actually real on certain lines.  In particular Caboolture and Ferny Grove and Gold Coast.  Some services on other lines are reaching critical loading as well. For example train ex Ipswich 6.14 to Caboolture is generally fully loaded by Indooroopilly.  There is too big a gap from the previous service (leaves Ipswich at 5.41am).  People are starting to stagger work start and finish times as they have been encouraged by Minister and Premier.  Translink need to respond with better scheduling.  A service from Ipswich at 5.55 am thereabouts would assist greatly.

Best wishes

Thanks for the welcome and best wishes, but you know yourself you cannot compare crowding on Brisbane to Sydney, as crowding is a lot worse on Sydney trains.

And I remember The Gold Coast Bulletin showing a picture of a train from India with people hanging of the front and on the roof and saying this is how The Gold Coast train to Brisbane trains and I thought yeah right, try again.

Also London has a lot more people then Sydney and Brisbane and seeing how trains on The Tube are around 5-10 minutes apart on many lines, maybe better scheduling and increased frequency is the answer?

But it is a catch 22, do we provided more trains first just in case or do we wait until  we get more people?

Because I don't think The Government would spending lots money on trains, even those they are wasting money on The North South Tunnel

Hi kwv,

Saw the letter in todays CM, well done :D

You are really hitting the nail on the head with

Quotedo we provided more trains first just in case or do we wait until we get more people?

This is exposing one of the great flaws with our governments of today.  They are JIT (just in time) Governments.  Just imagine if our forebears had the myopia of todays' Governments.  We would be a much greater mess than we are already  today.  The Gold Coast line is a great example of flawed planning and now expensive catchup works.  Why on earth is the new line to Springfield a single line?  They are already talking about extensions to Ipswich.  Lay it double from the outset, much cheaper and efficient in the longer term.

We can do but keep on suggesting sensible solutions.
