QuoteBrisbane's draft new City Plan

Brisbane City landscapeBrisbane City Council is committed to facilitating economic growth and maintaining prosperity in Brisbane through sustainable development.

As part of this commitment, Council has released the draft new City Plan (ePlan). This draft new City Plan  is Council's plan for the future development of Brisbane. It guides how land in Brisbane can be used and developed. It also helps us plan for infrastructure to support growth and create a more diversified economy while continuing to protect our city's enviable way of life.

Interesting that the maps show the tunnel (that is currently no more than an idea) that goes from the Western Freeway, north then runs under/in the Trouts Rd corridor as 'Existing Infrastructure'.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Remarkable.  Their maps, which show bus stops, etc., do not even acknowledge the existence of railways or railway stations, e.g. this map of Runcorn area:

But it's interesting to note that it's not even all bus stops either. For example, this map of Keperra: http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/downloads/nCP_maps/pfti_road_network_maps/39-R130.pdf

Media release 13th February 2013

SEQ: Brisbane City Council is the problem!

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers has said it is time that public transport planning was removed from Brisbane City Council (BCC) and correctly left with TransLink.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"It is time transport planning was removed from BCC.  They do not understand that the public transport network is larger than BCC."

"One of the reasons that the bus network in Brisbane is fairly mediocre in terms of network connectivity, cost efficiency and runs in competition with other modes is that councillors are not transport planners. The chronic bus-jam and congestion in Brisbane is just another sign of the mediocre network planning."

"It would appear that BCC is now intent on attempting to thwart overdue attempts by TransLink to sort out the bus network (1).  The Maroon City Glider is a classic example of why transport planning needs to be with TransLink.  The Maroon City Glider is a strange priority when one considers the much wider network deficiencies that need addressing (2).

"We call on the Minister for Transport and Main Roads to stand firm, support TransLink and remove public transport planning from BCC and correctly place it with TransLink.  Brisbane Transport is an operator, not the public transport planning agency for south-east Queensland."

Re: BCC is the problem!

Greetings,

As a further demonstration of why public transport planning needs to be removed from Brisbane City Council consider this.

The draft  new BCC City Plan ( http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/planning-building/current-planning-projects/brisbanes-new-city-plan/index.htm ) has the following major inconsistencies.

Their active and public transport maps, which show bus stops, etc., do not even acknowledge the existence of railways or railway stations, e.g. this map of Runcorn area:

http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/downloads/nCP_maps/pfti_active_and_public_transport_network_maps/143-APT294.pdf

However in many cases even the bus stop information is not correct and many are missing.  For example, this map of Keperra: http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/downloads/nCP_maps/pfti_road_network_maps/39-R130.pdf

TransLink are attempting to sort out the bus network, and ensure that rail stations are properly supported by feeder buses.  But again BCC sees itself in isolation and a competitor and a non-team player in terms of a proper integrated public transport network.

Time for the Minister to act!

Best wishes
Robert

Sorry Ozbob, I was having another look through last night and found the set of maps that Colin had been looking through, and the ones of Keperra do indeed show the bus stops. There are a few different sets showing different things, the one I had linked to was road transport.

Even with development plans though they still want to ignore rail though. If you look into the zoning maps, there are planned areas along Gympie Rd around the new busway stations with high density (up to 8 stories I believe) allowed. Even the one at Windsor though is all on the eastern side of Lutwyche Rd, ignoring the train stations and the pre-existing set of shops on Newmarket Rd (between Windsor and Wilston Station, not the Coles way down the other end) that could already support higher density.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.

No worries, they should be on all of them ...  :bg:

The draft plan will ensure we have no mixed use walkable neighbourhoods except the odd exception; predominantly max 2 story detached housing, no place creation, no separated bike lanes.  Very poor plan compared to the world leaders!  Urban sprawl is its outcome!

Actually one of the pluses I saw in my random looking around was that they want to put a bikeway in next to the FG line (for most of what I was looking at anyway, it went at least as far as Enoggera).
