Word is that the line has been reopened through Bundaberg for loco hauled trains but as yet no overhead, given the circumstances a pretty good effort by QR.  :-t

Now it will be interesting to see how long they take to get the coal lines that are out back up and running?

Train has de-railed just north of Gladstone. Hope you're not after fresh fruit this weekend, the main Brisbane-Cairns line will be blocked.

A FREIGHT train derailment closed the railway line between Gladstone and Rockhampton on Friday afternoon.

A spokesperson said the line was expected to reopen next week and all Queensland Rail Travel services on the line would continue operating, with a combination of rail and buses transporting customers to their destination.

Initial reports suggested the back of the train caught fire.

Firefighters attended the scene at Ambrose, between Gladstone and Rockhampton.

Police, ambulance and representatives from Aurizon were also reported to be at the scene.

Investigations into the cause of the derailment are ongoing.

This reminds me of the document I received under right to information that said they feared the 'negative media impact' of food shortages to the north of the state if they did not allow a freight window during the Easter 2009 Caboolture to Beerburrum line opening.

The operator of the main north coast line between Brisbane and Cairns says rail services will not be fully restored until the end of the week.

An Aurizon coal train derailed on Friday, causing significant damage to the line at Ambrose, north of Gladstone in central Queensland.

The company says it is still repairing the damage.

It says it expects some services to operate tomorrow but the track will not be fully restored until Thursday.
