Missing the last Cleveland and Ferny Grove trains still rubs me up the wrong way.  At least it gets the IPS/CAB/BNH trains.

30 minute frequency heading to the venue annoys me also.

Is the Central arrival time of the first service a misprint?  That only allows 1 minute to connect to the last Ipswich train.  It's normally 5 minutes earlier.

Maybe translink should publish the details of the Soundwave trains via exhibition at the RNA showgrounds. No doubt that will go up on Friday arvo when no body has a chance to see it.

Still with every train that isn't to the Gold Coast stops all stations!

Improved services full time would drastically reduce the need for expensive specials, mostly heading to the event.  Perhaps they are worried about the inability to send someone else the bill.

Cam

The Western Freeway & Centenary Highway were very heavily congested inbound on Friday late afternoon & early evening. There were no reports or signs of a crash or breakdown. Snarl reported heavy congestion from Sumner to Toowong: http://queensland.snarl.com.au/incidents/single/232669 & http://queensland.snarl.com.au/incidents/single/232674 This congestion, which is unusual for this time of day, can only be put down to 40 000 people attending Lang Park that night.

It is clear that a considerable number of attendees at special events at Lang Park drove in from the Ipswich area & beyond. I suspect the main reason is that it takes too long to get home the whole way by public transport. I suspect that many also drive in from the outer northern suburbs & Sunshine Coast for the same reason as well. Attendees drive & park near inner suburban railway stations, just outside the Lang Park restricted parking zone or pay for parking rather than take the whole or most of the journey via public transport.

The operation of all stations services to Caboolture & Ipswich/Rosewood after a special event at Lang Park must stop. The time saving would be considerably more than 1 minute per station because it takes longer for people to alight from these congested services.

SEQ: Express rail services needed before after the game

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers calls for express rail services before and after games at Suncorp Stadium.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"Last weekend's Suncorp game resulted in significant traffic jams in the western suburbs (1, 2).  It is presumed this is due to people driving to railway stations close to Milton rather than endure a slow moving train to and from the game.  These trains should run express to and from Darra to give a faster trip and better load balancing.  A similar treatment could easily be done for the Caboolture line."

"Unfortunately, this is complicated by the full time services which serve all stations all the way to Ipswich.  It would be easier to coordinate the specials if there were more services full time, there would be far less need for specials for events, particularly heading to the event.  These specials are quite expensive to operate, and even more so because of so many station stops."

"It has also been observed by some that services will run to the clock despite a game running over time. These services need to be held.  As soon as trains are full they should depart immediately."

"Events such as football games provide an opportunity to get non public transport users to try the services, however the current services fall short."

Shuttle buses

Shuttle bus services to the event will operate from the following locations from 8am:

Roma Street station (stop 125) (high frequency until 10am)
Adelaide Street (stop 45, opposite City Hall) (high frequency until 10am)
Eight Mile Plains busway station (at regular intervals until 9.40am) - Friday to Sunday only
Carindale bus interchange (stop H) (at regular intervals until 9.40am) - Friday to Sunday only
Chermside bus interchange (stop D) (at regular intervals until 9.40am) - Friday to Sunday only.

Shuttle bus services to the last two days (Monday/Tuesday) will operate from the following locations from 8.30am:

Roma Street station (stop 125) (high frequency until 10am)
Adelaide Street (stop 45, opposite City Hall) (high frequency until 10am).

Passengers travelling to The Gabba by train should transfer to a shuttle bus at South Bank or Roma Street busway stations.
Why is there always an insistence on adding in extra shuttles, rather than just upping the frequency of existing routes? Shuttles from outside Roma St, rather than plugging route 66  or the 340 and maybe adding some extra services. (Same with Adelaide St). Eight Mile Plains and Carindale I can sort of understand. But then they ignore trains from the south being able to interchange to route 29 at Boggo Rd. The station staff at Park Rd were at least making announcements telling any passengers to head over to platform 5 and catch it, but nothing on the Translink website.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

somebody

Because that's the way it's always been done.

achiruel

There are shuttle buses today (non TransLink) from Helensvale, Surfers Paradise & Broadbeach for Summadayze music festival.

No mention on the TransLink website though, making it difficult for people planning to travel by public transport, having to consult two separate websites.

Should TL mention event shuttles like this on their website, even if they're not running them?

SurfRail

They certainly did before, even if they aren't now.

How successful was the public transport to the tennis? Was the lack of frequency an issue, especially after the main evening matches finished after 10pm.
