No brainer for me, first off a proper fare review.  In the interim,  immediately change the present fare structure / price that gets things going - reduce all zones by a $1.50 (adult peak, other proportionally), increase off peak to 30%, extend concession travel to health care card holders.  This could be done overnight on the present go card system.

1. Rollout of the Frequent Network- BUZ and TUZ.

Fares are high and these are unlikely to be reversed (as a general rule of thumb, agencies move to increase their own budgets, not cut them) and there is currently a 'gap' between the ticket price of a trip on PT and the actual journey-time value (I showed in another thread how discounting based on journey time vs a comparable trip in a car yielded much lower prices than current PT fares). There are two ways I can think of to change the value-for-money and that is to lower the price closer to what it is actually worth (not happening) or apply compensation in some form (upgrade service and network quality).

Frequent network mapping shows the main areas for fixing are Centenary, Bulimba, Northwest, Wynnum Road, Yeronga. Altering train timetables has a far longer lead (more internal wrangling plus geometric network issues involved, plus the costs are far higher to operate frequent trains) so leading with more BUZ and extending service frequency on the Ferny Grove Line to weekends and evenings would be important.

2. Frequent Network Mapping
So simple and cost next to nothing to do - increases patronage, simplicity, reduces hits to website, call centre etc.

3. Fares overhaul
Let the government continue to say one thing (conserve finances blah blah) while doing the exact opposite (money leaking from the system). The longer this goes on for, the more likely The Courier Mail will pick up on the rort... Same with Maroon WasteGlider which has to be one of the worst 'investments' ever done by BCC - up there with 2000 fakey express buses on Legacy Way and Clem 7's $773 million dollars investment into something that probably has negative BCR...

Ultimately what is not financially sustainable... will not be sustained. A fare review is needed, and failing to do this will open up something the Labor opposition can harp on about. (On a side note it does seem that QLD is now a one-party state, I've heard NOTHING from the other side by way of articles etc).

Future fare increases should only be applied to the peak hour fares, and the off-peak fares should be frozen. This will set up a differential over time and hopefully spread the peak better (also put on more shoulder services so that there actually is capacity to spread into). Paper tickets are extortion and should be scrapped ASAP.

4. New bus network
This will be fantastic

5. Cut paper ticketing.
With all door boarding on buses and 100% electronic ticketing, there is no need for the P system of buses.
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

mufreight

1. A realistic fare review
2. Commence construction on CRR
3. Commence duplication and realignment Palmwoods to Wombye
4. Commence construction of Little Liverpool Range tunnel between Grandchester and Laidley.
5. Increased provision for parking at Springfield Central and Springfield.
6. Current Transport Minister replaced by someone who understands the real purpose of public transport.

Dump paper tickets from July 1, 2013.
+1.  But in my opinion this needs to be combined with selling go cards on board and top ups with a disincentive for doing it on board.

- 15min timetable over the practical parts of the network capable of supporting it and existing freight services
Strathpine at least or Yeerongpilly should be the first 2 cabs off the rank.  Next would be Manly and Shorncliffe.

- 30min to Doomben
(Above morning peak to around 7:30pm M-F, Sat and Sun from around 8am to 7pm)
- start extension to Hamilton
I don't see the point of having 30 minute Doomben frequency.  Be better to increase the buses in the area.

Needs to be 15 minute frequency no later than the extension too.

- Annoucece timetable to complete duplication/re-alignment of at least +90% of remaining track to Landsbourgh
- Annouce start date and funding plan for CRR
Agree.

Quote from: rtt_rules on January 01, 2013, 14:18:58 PM
- Annouce start date for Quad to Kuraby to enable 15min to Beenleigh/GC
CRR used properly would enable 20 minute frequency.  Quad would be nice though.

- Airport line 15min, 6-6 7 days a week.
Don't see why 7 days but only until 6pm?  Next thing IMO is just filling in the interpeak, then 2/3 more evening services in each direction so run until 11/11:30pm.  They're nearly there.  Weekdays do see a lot more flights than weekends.

- Start construction of Ellensgrove station
- Upgrade the single track section of Cleveland line to enable 15min clock face timetable (ie passing lanes where required)
Agree with those

- Fix the fare structure
Something that should be done.

I'd add:
- full time Ipswich express services, particularly after and before games.  This means 4tph at Richlands too.
- counter peak on the Ipswich line
- increased Robina stabling.
- increased services counter peak to South Bank, even though they aren't too bad now.
- Get rid of the silly stopping pattern to the Gold Coast (Woodridge, all to Varsity Lakes) after the game which appears to have been needed before the Salisbury-Kuraby triple.
- add a crossover at Coopers Plains so up trains can use the middle road without interfering with down trains.  Although this would likely be a stranded investment once CRR has been built.

A bus that runs after 5.25pm along with Strathpine getting at least 1x 30 minute frequency bus route in peak hour ::)

minbrisbane

What's the point of a Bus to Strathpine?  There are frequent trains already.  If anything the local bus network needs beefing up.

Edit:  Sorry misread!

The local bus network was reviewed earlier last year.  IMHO the routes still far too circuitous, don't run frequently enough and aren't advertised well.

I also think a two tiered system should be introduced in non-bcc area.  I.e. express/local.

Feeder buses was what I was referring to. The small area between Strathpine-Petrie which includes Warner, Bray Park, Lawnton, Joyner, Strathpine, Petrie only have hourly bus routes which includes during peak hour. There's the 680 but that duplicates the rail line somewhat and has its own catchment of business/areas between the actual stations. But to the East-West and unless you live on a bit of road where other services run along its hourly from sun rise to sun set.

Mr X

I'd like to see trip tracker extended. Don't need LCDs in every bus, but just have real times listed on the TL website so we know if our bus is going to be late etc.

Both State and Local governments being supportive of changes like the increased introduction of bus lanes and other bus priority measures. Something from the Stage 2 train timetable review.

Covered pretty well above:

0.  All levels of Govt publically stating that "Our cities are unaffordable and we need to change the way we move and the suburbs we live in" and an public education campaign to explain why.
1.  Frequent Trains - Increase frequency on rail to 15min off peak and even more frequent during peak hour where possible - TUZ
2.  Frequent & Direct Buses - Redesign bus network to create Frequent Network and increase frequency to 15min off peak and even more frequent during peak hour - Grid of BUZ's
3.  Bus and Bike Lanes - Put bus lanes and segregated bike lanes on all major roads
4.  Busway Trunk Routes - Convert Busway to smaller number of trunk routes and operate same as rail lines
5.  Reduce Public Transport Fares - Decrease flag call on Go Cards particularly single zone trips
6.  Active Schools - Fund and Implement "Walking School Bus' and increase cycling at every school
7.  Public Transport School - Develop public transport usage programs and services at major private and public schools
8.  Walkable Neighourhoods - Increase walkability of existing suburbs where required
9.  More Mixed Use Centres - Incentives to build mixed use walkable neighbourhoods, commercial, shopping, employment and major centres.
10. No More Freeways - Stop throwing away good money adding road capacity
11. Redirect freeway funding to start CRR, Trout Road, CAMCOS, NCL Duplication and other rail network amplification projects (aka 15 min off-peak on all lines - 5 to 7.5 min peak)

Re: Ipswich express, I'm thinking Ips express is 15min to Springfield all stops, Ips very limited stops before Dara arriving 3min after Springfield then all to Ips/rosewood. Likewise return same, it pulls into Dara 3-5min prior to Sprinfield. Currently however you won't get 15min to Ips. 20min maybe, 15min unlikely.
Can't have 20 minute frequency to IPS combined with 15 minute frequency to Springfield.

The installation is all being done as part of the same telematics suite (includes the wiring/GPS/driver console/duress alarms), so every bus will be getting a display screen anyway.  I don't expect this to be fully rolled out until next year some time from what I have heard, but it will give us something better than every other system in the country.

The continued roll out of the real time system and the benefits it gives (both passengers directly, and indirectly through better trip time details being available to planners) is something I'm looking forward to as well. The only down side is issues with some of the systems not working. I've twice caught Gliders where the screen has only displayed the TL logo, and flashes for the next stop, however they didn't appear to be listed in the approaching buses list.

BrizCommuter

- Stage 2 timetables - sooner rather than later (they were due in late 2011!)
- Less expensive fares for short distance commuters and improved fare structure
- A decent bus network review
- 15 min off-peak extended to more lines and weekends.

All of these are probably unrealistic expectations.

Maybe, TransLink may even publish their network plan for FY2012/13 before the end of the financial year?
