Media Release
Assistant Minister for Public Transport
Mr Steve Minnikin

Extra buses for not so silent nights

NightLink bus services will double from tonight to provide more options for Christmas revellers enjoying the festive season.

Public Transport Assistant Minister Steve Minnikin said Brisbane's weekend NightLink buses would run every 30 minutes until early Sunday morning, December 23.

"With Christmas celebrations underway, there are many more people staying out later at night and NightLink buses offer a safe, reliable and affordable way to get home," Mr Minnikin said.

"This year, passengers will have a choice of more than 180 services operating on 23 routes each Friday and Saturday night over the next few weeks.

"NightLink trains will operate as normal on the Beenleigh, Caboolture and Ipswich/Rosewood lines.

"Passengers can also catch NightLink flat-fare taxis which are available from Warner Street in Fortitude Valley, as well as from Eagle and George streets in the Brisbane CBD."

NightLink buses operate between 1am and 5am with stops located at:

Fortitude Valley

    Brunswick Street, opposite Valley Metro
Ann Street, near Birdie Num Num's (N199 and CityGlider only)

Brisbane CBD

    Eagle Street, near Jade Buddha
    George Street, outside Treasury Casino.

Normal NightLink services will operate on the Gold Coast from 1.30am to 5.30am from:

Appel Park stop on Ferny Avenue (near Titanium Bar) – N21
Surfers Paradise Boulevard near Cavill Avenue (near Hard Rock Cafe) – N750.

TransLink will also provide additional services for major New Year's Eve venues with free travel from 9pm.

For more information on NightLink services or to plan your trip visit the TransLink web or mobile site, www.translink.com.au, or phone 13 12 30.

They might even find patronage tripling at that frequency

My experience is that you can't even notice the difference in patronage per service.

Every change they have made to Nightlink has made it less popular though.  Non stopping stop 216, then not leaving from Warner St.

Perhaps fares are the real problem, although i have trouble swallowing this because it's so much cheaper than a cab.

Frequency is not that great. Pretty sure that with Melbourne's night rider it is half hourly plus they let you board the return trips as well.
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

^^ Yes, and they've upped the frequency to 15 minutes for December on some lines (usually half hourly all year round).

And there's still crowding complaints, just like Nightride in Sydney which is generally half hourly Fri/Sat nights.

Still a better frequency than some daytime routes up here  ::)
