Chewing gum on seats, prams in the walkways and people dodging the fare are some of the top bugbears for bus drivers and operators. What are yours?

TransLink has launched a campaign this week, targeting bad manners on public transport, specifically on the Redcliffe Peninsula.

TransLink acting deputy director general Matt Longland said it was the simple things that made the difference.

"Giving way to disembarking passengers before boarding or keeping doorways and aisles clear from bags or other objects have a remarkable effect on the on-time running of services,'' Mr Longland said.

"Making sure that you keep music and noise at a low level can greatly improve the quality of a fellow passengers daily commute.

"Students travelling free or on concession tickets should remember to vacate seats if adults are standing.''

Hornibrook Bus Lines general manager Martin Hall said fare evasion was the greatest concern for bus operators and he was shocked at the amount of people who got on and off the bus without acknowledging the driver.

"When I travel on the buses, more often that not passengers get on and off the bus without acknowledging the driver; a simple hello and thank you is all that is needed,'' Mr Hall said.

"For passengers, there is nothing worse than sitting on a seat where there is a crushed sandwich or chewing gum under the seat.

"This does cause tension but prams should be folded up and stowed away.

"And people need to hail the bus driver in plenty of time; this is for a safety reason more than anything so the bus does not have to brake suddenly and has enough time to indicate and pull over.

"This represents about 75 per cent of our complaints with people saying the bus did not stop for them but when we check the videos the people have not hailed the bus driver in time.''
