ROAD and rail commuters have again experienced significant delays getting home tonight, with multiple car crashes and a technical fault on several rail lines.

There have been multi-vehicle crashes on the Ipswich Motorway and Coronation Drive, as well as vehicle rollovers at Moorooka and Rocklea.

An earlier accident left Lutwyche Rd northbound heavily congested from the Story Bridge through to Windsor, and one lane of Wickham Tce was closed from Berry St through to Edward St at Spring Hill.

Outbound lanes of the Ipswich Motorway were congested after a multi-vehicle accident just after the Chalk St exit, while Coronation Dr outbound saw a multi vehicle crash in the right lane just before the Hale St exit to the Inner City Bypass.

Traffic also suffered after a rollover on Muriel Ave at Moorooka, and a second rollover on Sherwood Rd at Rocklea, although there were no serious injuries as a result of either of those crashes.

Apart from roads, train commuters on the Caboolture and Nambour lines experienced delays of up to 30 minutes tonight because of an electrical fault that occurred at about 5.10pm.

A spokeswoman for Queensland Rail said the "points" - the mechanism which changes trains from one track to another - was a minor electrical fault and a regular occurrence.

"A points failure happens very regularly, and is just one of those things that's unpredictable," she said.

"This happens with regularity on the network, and just requires an electrician to fix it."

Trains continued to run very slowly until the problem was fixed just before 6pm.
