One of Queensland's last remaining timber railway stations is getting a makeover.

The heritage-listed Cooroy Railway Station was built in the 19th century and is one of nine remaining timber stations in the state.

Rory MacManus from Queensland Rail says there has been a lot of research done to ensure the restoration is authentic.

"We've had extensive consultation with heritage experts to ensure that the new colour scheme is in keeping with the character of the heritage-listed building," he said.

"There's been paint scraping, trying to get back to the original paint that's been on there and we've also looked at the different photos that are around of the building back in its heyday."

Annoying that the media statement does not reveal the actual colours.   >:(

Embarrassing pink perhaps?  Or Livid-With-Frustration Green?  Painting the 'rocket launcher' overbridge won't make it comply with DDA standards.

At least government is listening to Rail Back On Track: http://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=7864.0

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Here's the colour scheme:

The weatherboards will be painted a beige colour, the window frames will be a mission brown, the roof will be a wattle grey and the goods shed will be a 'york stone' hue.

Perhaps some photos could be taken of the new Cooroy colour scheme as the train passes by it on the 'Traveston tour.'

A painter is on site, scraping away the flaking paint prior to applying a new coat of paint.  Let's hope his is a 'frontline' job and won't go.

Most of the station building painted.  The 'rocket launcher' pedestrian overbridge not yet painted.  The floor boards on the old goods shed have been pulled up.  Will the old goods crane be restored?

It seems the Newman austerity program has hit the Cooroy Railway Station painting mid-stream.  When the government said the 'Cooroy station' would be upgraded, boy did they mean it.  Only the station office and waiting room have been repainted - and that's where the paint stopped flowing.  The roof has not been painted, the rocket launcher pedestrian overbridge remains unpainted, the floorboards from the goods shed have been ripped up and have disappeared, leaving the unpainted goods shed in worse repair.  Painters have decamped.  Gone.

Stillwater

Painters are back, this time giving the old goods shed a lick of paint.

Painters won't be working today, but the metal safety bars are in place to allow them to work on the roof of the station building and the old goods shed.  New timber flooring on the shed now in place and the old crane painted a milky coffee colour.  No painting yet on the rocket launcher overbridge, but its dry rot holes have been cleaned out and filled with concrete.  Slowly getting there.
