Re: TransLink and TMR

Greetings,

The changes announced yesterday with respect to the TransLink Transit Authority (TTA) and Transport and Main Roads (TMR) are heavy on hyperbole but light on detail.

The TTA was looked towards around Australia as an excellent structure to manage public transport.

It is difficult to really comprehend how TransLink will be able to assert a strong public transport agenda in the mammoth bureaucracy that is Transport and Main Roads.

Can the Minister for Transport please put out a document that explains the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed changes with respect to public transport?

Is the Queensland State Government really committed to the improvement of public transport?  Is the Queensland State Government really concerned about congestion, the massive social and financial impacts of road trauma?  The massive environmental impacts of road transport?

Can the Minister for Transport also confirm if public transport planning will be removed from Brisbane City Council as part of these changes?   This is another cause of inefficiency and poor public transport network integration.  Brisbane City Council is no longer surrounded by market gardens. See 30 May 2012: SEQ: Scrap Maroon CityGlider 'Waste on Wheels'  http://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=8428.0 for an excellent example why this needs to occur.

Best wishes
Robert
