Changes to Shorncliffe line services from 23 July

Last updated: 2.48pm Monday 9 July 2012

On Monday 23 July, TransLink and Queensland Rail will introduce four new services and make minor timetable changes to eight other services on the Shorncliffe line, to improve reliability.

New services

Four new late-night services will be introduced, two inbound and two outbound. Running Monday to Thursday only, these services will start at Central station. The new trains will extend the outbound half hourly frequency from 9.53pm to 11.53pm, and the inbound half hourly frequency from 8.37pm to 12.07am (Monday to Thursday only):

Minor timetable changes

Minor timetable changes will be made to eight outbound afternoon trains. These changes will affect either departure times from Roma Street, or arrival times at Shorncliffe station:

I wonder if this is Neil Scales making his mark already.  Removing hourly frequency is a start.

Removing hourly frequency from the Doomben line would be even better.  No conceivable reason this can't be done.

Central starter is interesting. Why not Roma St?

This also appears to be changing what is currently a Friday only service to a Monday to Friday service.

Wonder if they'll do the same to the Ferny Grove line to remove the last hourly gap in the evening. I can live with services running later on a Friday night compared to Mon-Thurs, but they should at least remain consistant in their service frequency.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I wonder if that Central is a misprint?  I don't think there is any infrastructure which allows reversing at Central.

Extra late night trains for concert fans

Monday 9 July 2012

Concert goers will no longer need to worry about missing the encore to catch the last train back from the Boondall Entertainment Centre.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Scott Emerson said four new train services on the Shorncliffe line at night would take the worry out of attending special events at Boondall.

"These new services will provide capacity for at least 700 more people per night to catch the train home after big events at the entertainment centre," Mr Emerson said.

"We all know how congested Sandgate Road and the Gateway Motorway can get when big events are on, so this is another step to encourage people to leave the car at home and take public transport instead."

Member for Nudgee Jason Woodforth said the two new inbound train services would depart Boondall station at 11.14pm and 12.14am.

"Previously the final inbound service was at 11.44pm which caused some fans to miss out on the end of some concerts.

"These two new trains will run from Monday to Thursday, extending the half-hour train frequency on this line.

"Trains already run to these times on the weekend (Friday and Saturday nights), when late night train patronage is traditionally higher."

Member for Sandgate Kerry Millard said passengers heading outbound to North Boondall, Sandgate and Shorncliffe stations will also benefit from the upgrades.

"There will be two new outbound trains from Roma Street departing Boondall station at 10.48pm and 11.48pm, as well as the regular timetable trains at 11.18pm and 12.18am.," Ms Millard said.

"Minor adjustments of a few minutes are also being made to outbound afternoon peak trains to provide better timetable efficiency."

I think the additional inbound trains will run to Cleveland.

I think that may be the case considering it was listed on the affected services list, and most late night services run through to Cleveland already.

Absolutely, that hour gap after 10:30ish is a pain in the posterior for shift workers and those returning home after social events.
