One thing that really needs to happen is DDA upgrades at Central 1-4.  If the train was actually level with the platform I expect they would be able to clear them much more quickly.

Still doesn't fix the horriable 10kph speed restriction.

That's due to the points isn't it? I don't know much about them, but is there anything other than how heavily those points are used that would stop them being replaced with 'better' ones? I think the tunnels might be a bit of a restriction.

I think encouraging passengers to spread along the platform in peak is a must. Perhaps tie it into the annoucement of an approaching service? "The Ferny Grove and Mitchelton service will arrive in approximately 2 minutes. Passengers please spread down the platform to ensure a quick boarding time."

Maybe also do something about pax at Central/Roma St crowding the doors in the PM peak making it difficult for pax to get off?
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Pretty sure it has nothing at all to do with the type of points. Its the tight left/right curve over short distance before the platform.

It certainly doesn't, but they are separate problems.

Platform 4 might have to be made less straight (like platform 6 at the other end) in order to accommodate a better approach - assuming you can carve out room without falling foul of structural issues.  I doubt any platform DDA works would extend to fixing the underpinning for the buildings on top.
