International Railway Journal --> SCT Logistics to launch Melbourne – Brisbane services

QuoteUSTRALIAN rail freight operator SCT Logistics has announced it will launch its first services on the Melbourne - Brisbane interstate corridor in January 2017, the first time a private operator has challenged the two major players already operating on the route, Pacific National and Aurizon.

SCT services will convey wagonload and intermodal freight between Melbourne and the company's newly-developed Bromelton Intermodal Estate, 65km south of Brisbane.

The 134-hectare site features a 10,500m2 cross dock terminal, a 5000m2 container handling area and more than 7.3km of internal sidings. Consistent with other SCT Intermodal developments, the Bromelton terminal offers the opportunity for tenants and customers to
locate their own facilities at a major rail head.

SCT also recently completed its Wodonga Rail Terminal at Logic Park on the New South Wales/ Victoria border, adjacent to the interstate corridor, which will also play a significant role in developing SCT's Queensland rail services.

SCT already serves the Brisbane market, but says the launch of its own rail services will broaden the service offering and enable customers to utilise SCT's integrated rail network and expanded national footprint.

SCT Logistics currently operates five weekly return interstate services on the East West transcontinental corridor linking Melbourne and Perth, via Adelaide, and Parkes (New South Wales) and Perth.

Last week-end, I watched a 1 hour Doco on Foxtel showcasing the SCT operation from Melbourne to Perth. Quite detailed and very interesting.
Did you know that SCT can only do single stacked containers on the Melbourne to Adelaide section of track due to restrictions along the line. Once the train gets to Adelaide, the train is reconfigured to run with double stacked Containers to run a bigger payload capacity from Adelaide to Perth.
Very Impressed by this operation !

Retired and got bored.
1 year at Town and Country Coaches and having a ball !

When I was in Adelaide last year I had a look at the yard where they marshal the double stackers
Very serious railways!
