Well with Campbell in the state gov, now is the hour!  :is-

Though is that because Translink is avoiding restructuring the BT network, or because BT won't work with them in restructuring it. BCC still seems to want to use BT as a political tool (Maroon Glider, etc). They only want to make a network for BCC ratepayers, those outside can be damned, even though providing a better network to those outside the BCC area can help reduce congestion inside the BCC area by making PT more attractive. But who wants to co-operate, co-operation is just so hard. Afterall, ou can't just propose something because it'll get you votes, it has to make sense if you're cooperating with Translink. Though with Campbell in charge at the state level, I half expect him to tell Translink to co-operate and support whatever it is that BCC want to do, rather than the other way around ::)
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Urgh.

Network design in this town is positively stupid, and I suspect that BT are the cause.

We have some of the highest fares on Earth
We have some of the highest subsidies on Earth (75%), even for the urban form that we have (comparable Canadian Systems - Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton) have 2x the cost recovery that we do.
Brisbane City (85 train stations, 22 busway station within BCC borders) has more heavy public transport infrastructure than Toronto, Canada (69 subway stations, 0 busway stations), a city with 2x or more population.
We also run more bus services than Toronto, a city with a size and character more like Sydney.

When something is not efficient, it is not effective because efficiency is intrinsically linked to abundance - if something is wasteful, there will be less useful service available by definition.

Out of the 220 or so bus routes that BT operate, only 9% are high frequency BUZ services. JUST 9%!!! Hundreds of millions are poured into the bus system annually, and here we are running a system that is 91% WELFARE. That is FAR TOO HIGH IMHO.  :is-

I agree that there is waste but not everything that is not BUZ is welfare. Peak and off peak tasks are different and do require, thanks to our land use, different responses.

Also, many routes are not 'BUZ', but are still decent. Eg 109.

public transport is and maybe always will be based around politics and the voting influence....the real problem fixing solutions will take a lot guts to implement and involves hitting the drivers where it hurts but no politician or mayor has the courage to do so because it means lost votes!! Its a shameful reality that we all must face now and into the future :(

bottom line is less people in cars/more people on public transport = more money to spend...but how do we get people out of the vehicles that they rely on so much??

I think it is time to pick apart the list of bus routes and sort them into categories and look for patterns.

321 is another nominee.

I also nominate 322, 328 and the Eagle Junction-city part of the 320.  Probably the bottom of the 326 and 327 as well.

HappyTrainGuy

Defs a serious look at the 326/327 through Taigum/Geebung/Toombul leg due to its frequency/operating hours span/no sunday services. From the few times I've seen it running through Geebung while waiting at teh station they haven't been the most popular services. They can then be culled at Taigum/Chermside/Sandgate and Strathpine with additional 325/335/339/333 extension to Aspley int. via Geebung station to make up for the lack of the culled 326/327 along with a direct link to the railway line for those that feed into Aspley and Chermside interchanges.
