SEQ: Call for interim improvements to transport in Bulimba

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public
transport and an advocate for public transport passengers calls for action to be taken to address the
poor quality of public transport in Bulimba.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"Public transport in Bulimba is not up to standard and needs improvement. While we would like
to see a 'BulimbaGlider' and BUZification of the 230 and 235 bus services, there are some interim
solutions that can be quickly and cheaply done."

"Peak hour T2 lanes should be considered along Wynnum Road to allow buses priority over general
single-occupant vehicle traffic. This is cheaper and faster than building a busway into Bulimba. All
busway stations, including Woolloongabba, should have white lines painted on the busway to ensure quick
and efficient loading and unloading. All this requires is a good paint bucket, some signs and road paint."

"Altering the local bus network will also have benefits which can be done rapidly and cheaply.
By altering the route 235 Balmoral via Thynne Road bus to turn into Oxford street rather than Apollo Road,
a frequent corridor can be achieved on Oxford street with a bus every 15 minutes for at least part
of the day, for little cost, provided that the two bus timetables were co-ordinated. As funding becomes
available, a full and proper upgrade for the 235 Balmoral via Thynne Road and 230 Bulimba via Oxford
Street services can be undertaken."

"These changes will mean that passengers will no longer have to wait while a 235 bus service goes past
so they can get to the main restaurant, shopping and movie strip in Bulimba - Oxford street."
