Queensland:  Council elections

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers has congratulated Lord Mayor Quirk and all successful Mayors and Councillors on their election.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"Congratulations to all successful in the Council elections through out Queensland.  For Brisbane the time is now right to re-cast the bus network.  Consideration needs to be given to bringing Brisbane Transport into a wider network planning role, to properly support a high frequency core network, both bus and rail (1)."

"The way the public transport network has evolved has lead to much inefficiency, old superseded routes still operating, and competition between modes.  This contributes to making the public transport network in Brisbane and south-east Queensland inefficient, much of it with poor service frequency, and a diminishing relative fare box despite very high fare cost increases of late."

"Now is time to sort out public transport properly. Political point scoring needs to take a back seat, and much better policy implemented from here."

"Now is the hour!"
