On Thursday 22 March, Thiess John Holland undertook the first drive through of the Northern Busway (Windsor to Kedron).

The second stage of the busway will connect the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital (RBWH) busway station at Windsor to Kedron, via the Lutwyche Road and Gympie Road corridor.

Travelling underground for 1.5kms, the busway will provide a two-way, two-lane tunnel for buses only from Truro Street, Windsor to Sadlier Street, Kedron surfacing along the way at the new Lutwyche and Kedron Brook busway stations.

Delivery of the Northern Busway (Windsor to Kedron) encompasses:

    1.5 kilometres of busway tunnel

    Two state-of-the-art busway stations at Lutwyche and Kedron Brook

    Eight new bus stops

    Improved pedestrian and cycle access and new green space from Bradshaw Park to Kedron Brook

Thiess John Holland's Commissioning Team is currently undertaking the final testing of fire systems, PA systems, power, fans and lighting in preparation for practical completion on April 30 when the busway is handed over to the State Government for operation by TransLink. Once operational, the busway is expected to halve the average travel time between Windsor and Kedron.

Why not? 

The LNP is not a party I associate with cutting bus services up here, especially with their stranglehold on the BCC.

I think they are savvy enough to avoid wholesale untargeted cuts or deferral of upgraded PT services like the Ipswich debacle.  Its the expensive stuff they will quail at doing (CRR, Sunshine Coast, other amplifications not related to roads or the busway).

For everything that has gone wrong we have generally avoided substantive service cuts where other networks have caved in (eg Joondalup line off-peak, declining service km for State Transit and ACTION) or stagnated (Adelaide bus network).  That may change, but I'm not so sure - Campbell seems more likely to cut quasi-governmental activities like funding renewables/carbon capture etc rather than things which are actually very firmly in the public sphere (like PT).

This is excellent news. Now the question is how many services will be BUZ services?
Also how long before Translink posts the revised timetables on the website.

Having been up there today, I'd have to say that I can't wait for this to complete.  My 333 averaged about 20km/h from the city to Chermside, the traffic was that bad.  The 325 on the way back was actually marginally faster in spite of the round the houses around Newmarket.

The first question is: will the planned bus lanes actually be implemented.
The second question is: will the planned service upgrades be sufficient?
