Community event to mark opening of Lynbrook station on Sunday 22 April

Families in Lynbrook and Lyndhurst are invited to celebrate the opening of the new Lynbrook railway station on Sunday 22 April.

Minister for Public Transport Terry Mulder said a special community event would be held on the same day to mark the official opening of the station.

"I am delighted to announce trains will operate from Lynbrook station on Sunday 22 April," Mr Mulder said.

"To mark this major milestone I would like to invite local residents to come along and celebrate with a free community event."

Mr Mulder confirmed all Cranbourne line trains would operate from Lynbrook station.

"Rail passengers will be able to travel to the city, or Cranbourne, every 15 minutes during peak times, and every 30 minutes at off-peak times every weekday," Mr Mulder said.

"Trains will run every 20 minutes at night until 10pm, and every 30 minutes from 10pm until the last train."

Mr Mulder confirmed weekend train services would also operate through the station.

"Trains will run every 20 minutes during the day on Saturdays and Sundays, and every 30 minutes at night on the weekend," Mr Mulder said.

Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Edward O'Donohue said the station was opening to residents earlier than anticipated, following previous power issues on the Cranbourne line.

"A lot of work has gone into opening the station earlier than scheduled," Mr O'Donohue said.

"Interim power works are being carried out during the upcoming closure of the Dandenong line to allow for the full operation of trains at Lynbrook station.

"These works will re-direct power from the existing Hallam sub-station in order to boost the supply of power on the line."

Mr O'Donohue announced works were also underway to construct a new sub-station near Lynbrook station.

"The sub-station will boost the supply of traction power on the line and make the running of trains more reliable," Mr O'Donohue said.

"Construction will start on the sub-station later this year and it will be operational in the second half of 2012."

The event will include free entertainment and activities including a sausage sizzle, jumping castle and face painting for the kids.

Parking will be available in the eastern station car park off Paterson Drive in Lynbrook, and the western station car park on Moreton Bay Boulevard in Lynhurst.
