THIS is what the new Maroochydore bus station will look like.



Work on the impressive new $8.3 million station - now missing a once planned overpass - has been delayed by wet weather.

Demolition crews will move on what is left of Maroochy House next month, ending a process that began when the former Dick Smith store was knocked down.

The station will have six bus bays, shelters, timetable information, secure bike storage and pedestrian links to nearby Sunshine Plaza.

According to TransLink, the tender for construction work will be released at the same time.

"Once complete, the new station will provide a high-quality and efficient public transport hub in Maroochydore and Sunshine Plaza," a spokesman for the project said.

"Buses are expected to start using the new station when it is completed in late 2012."

The Transport Department has not yet decided how bus services will run once the project is complete.

A spokesman said routes and timetables would be reviewed before the opening.

Noosa Junction Station (still with some wet weather problems) is working well.  The Maroochydore station replaces an inadequate set-up at Sunshine Plaza.  Caloundra has a bus station paid for by the federal government.

Which is itself pretty awful - but at least it has a lounge!

The CoastConnect project IIRC provides for 2 bus platforms on Cooma Tce outside, so the interior bays (which involve reversing in and out) would only be used for long-distance work.
