QuoteBoth Newman and Jones said while the established suburbs would not be affected by huge amounts of growth, areas like Mitchelton would be a focus for transit-oriented developments.

Twitter questions funnelled through to the mediator on traffic congestion and improving travel times along the major roads.

Mr Newman suggested removing the T2 lane along Waterworks Road to improve traffic flow.

Ms Jones said she wasn't surprised Quest Newspapers readers were concerned about public transport.

Have they learned NOTHING!?!

Obviously learned nothing from the Coro Dve disaster.
He doesn't consider that it was a disaster.  Indeed is there any evidence in the public arena?

Removing the transit lane has lead to 3 inbound lanes being clogged instead of 2 - particularly in the afternoons. I wonder how many commuters who work between Indooroopilly & Milton who used to catch a bus along Coronation Drive have decided to drive because the buses are now stuck in the congestion as well.

Not that I can find right now, but I remember reading at the time it increased travel times by something like 8 minutes per bus.  Quite a lot for a 2km long section of road.

Was there reduced delays along Moggill Rd to compensate.  I guess only in the AM.

Stupid part was not running Western Freeway buses via Sylvan Rd in the AM when we had the bus lane.

And this idiot will be at the helm of our State.  Goodbye CCR, goodbye any rail funding and hello congestion, road deaths and spiraling upward trauma costs.

There's no 594 (Indooroopilly, Toowong, Brookside via Metroad 5...) yet...

Removing the T2 lane improving traffic flow depends on your point of view. If you're measuring the improvement as just people moved past a point/hour then there could be some merit in removing the T2 lane as there really aren't that many cars that use it. So even with slowing down the buses, you could still be more people past in an hour as more cars can use it. But whether that's actually something you should be encouraging...
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.

Don't touch it. Next thing they'll put cars on the busway...

Don't give him ideas...

Then Newman would allow you tp pay the toll on the busway with your Go Card and Translink would want your car painted in Translink colours with advertising

There was an idea floated a couple of years back to put taxis on the Busway.  Don't remember if it was Newman's idea though.

Mr X

The local gagoons from whoop whoop always moan and bitch in their local rags about wanting cars on the Green bridge. And then go off and demand another ruddy carpark....the concept of cars on BUSways is not new.  :thsdo

Local community and BCC have always and will always respond with a resounding NO.

So NO cars on busways, no slashing T2 lanes, no more carparks in the city....

The Waterworks Rd T2 lane was studied by QUT in 2005, here: http://eprints.qut.edu.au/2731/1/2731.pdf

Doesn't show a very flattering picture in the PM, although doubtless it has improved since with Go Cards rather than cash fares.

It does show that in the AM the T2 lane (and T3 lane on Lutwyche Rd) works very well.

It would be interesting to see how many more buses are using these corridors now.

EDIT: 44 buses I/B along Waterworks Rd in the 2 hour AM peak, up by 5/hour or 29%!:

Re: Lutwyche Rd, it is now 70, 35/hr - same as in the study period!  Seems odd.  Perhaps they picked the busiest 1 hour:
