411 UQ via Milton Road (amalgamating 470)

Proposal: Amalgamate 470 into 411.

Description: Begin 411 at either Queen Street Bus Station or King George Square, travel to Roma Street then use Milton Road to Toowong. At Toowong use Sherwood road to allow for rail interchange. Turn on to High Street (this allows for buses to use stop outside Woolworths on the inbound, and avoids super-sharp turn from Schonell Drive), then down Burns Rd then Heroes Rd, then usual route to UQ via Hawken Drive.

Rationale: Too many buses down Coronation Drive, so not much value added by having 411 down Coro Drive. Coronation Drive is served by 412 anyway. No such similar service to UQ on Milton Road, significant student and staff population for UQ in these suburbs remote from Coronation Drive. Eliminates one bus transfer at Toowong from 470, while also opening a new transfer opportunity to Ipswich, Caboolture by rail at Toowong. Future connection at Toowong to UQ by future upgraded steam-ironed and upgraded GCL on metroad 5 to northern suburbs. Current 411 does not use INB - it should do so to allow rail connections at the CBD end of the route. No specific suggestions for the new farm end of the former route 470, except to note that something should go from the CBD, down James Street and terminate at Brisbane Powerhouse in order to serve an unserviced section and provide decent access directly to the powerhouse, and also 'complete the grid' in this area.

Cost: - this proposal will actually save money, specifically from duplication on the Toowong-CBD section. This money should be used to upgrade the frequency of the service to at least every 20 minutes, preferably every 15 minutes between 6 am and 9pm. Will also avoid Coronation Drive congestion.

I like it!

Now just to get rid of the 471...

QuoteNow just to get rid of the 471...

I proposed elsewhere that 471 be bent back to terminate at Toowong. A new Mt Coo-tha shuttle would go up and down Mt Coo-tha for tourists, botanical gardens etc.

I don't support it.  My views haven't changed since last time this was discussed, and I didn't see any new info.
