Ipswich is among the most expensive places in the world to take public transport, according to the LNP.

Transport spokesman Scott Emerson, whose Indooroopilly electorate is also on the Ipswich train line, said passengers were walking away from buses and trains as a transport option.

"Brisbane and the greater Brisbane area, such as Ipswich, has become the most expensive place to take public transport after London and Oslo,'' he said.

Mr Emerson said the LNP's policy of free trips after nine journeys would save Ipswich commuters up to $300 a year.

He would not promise a reduction in fares, only saying and an LNP government would ``review'' ticket pricing, compared to Labor's plan to increase fares by 15 per cent next year.

Ipswich West candidate Sean Choat said with Ipswich Go Card commuters forking out $13.24 every day for a return trip to Brisbane, fare increases were attacking the ``back pocket''.

"I think that is quite unreasonable for the average working person who faces increases in water rates, electricity, fuel, car registration,'' he said.

Bundamba candidate Michael Kitzelmann said for residents living in the eastern suburbs it was cheaper to drive their cars.

"To come into Ipswich will cost them around $7 on a bus, and will take an hour and a half. Or they can go into Brisbane suburbs for $3 and spend their money elsewhere,'' he said. "So for Ipswich, as a local issue, the public transport system is not supporting our town.''

Note reader that free travel is after nine journeys in a Monday to Sunday period.

Why don't they just put more trains on instead of discounting rotten apples
