Indeed, gives folks public transport options for the first time, in the shadows of those two massive 'car parks' ...  connects up local transit hubs ...  people will now be able to get into Darra, Inala, Richlands and Forest Lake.  Also gives public transport access to the nearby prison complex.

Took a while, but we got there ...

Great news. Interesting to read that there will be minor changes to the 465/466. I thought the timetabled connections were decent enough already.

Rail Back on Track spokesman Robert Dow holds plans for a new Darra bus route with transport minister Annastacia Palaszczuk.

QuoteBus service provides better connection

9th January 2012

RESIDENTS on Markham St in Darra will no longer have to hike almost two kilometres to catch public transport.

A bus stop will open on the street on February 20, as part of a new route designed to provide better public transport access for more than 600 residents.

The announcement was made last Thursday as part of the roll out of 140,000 additional weekly seats across the south east bus network.

Transport Minister and Member for Inala Annastacia Palaszczuk said the route extension would provide a connection for residents to the Richlands and Darra train station.

The 462 bus will now travel down Boundary Rd, through Baker Rd to service Centenary Village en route to Darra station.

Several new bus stops will be part of the upgrade.

"This new route gives a community that was severely affected by last year's flood new public transport options," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"And it will service the growing residential and industrial areas that need more regular services."

Rail Back on Track spokesman Robert Dow has lobbied for the new route for the past year and said it would be a great convenience to the community.

"A lot of people are very grateful for this new service," Mr Dow said.

"Mums in the area can now get to playgroups easier and people will have better access to shops and further transit."

Upcoming improvements to routes 462, 465 and 466

From Monday 20 February 2012, routes 462, 465 and 466 will be improved to provide more efficient services and better connections to Centenary Village, Archerfield Road, Richlands and Darra stations.

Following feedback from local residents and recent changes to local road access, route 462 will be diverted down Boundary Road, through Baker Street to service Centenary Village on route to Darra station. This new section of route 462 will operate during existing peak services only.

Route 462 will also receive a new weekday off peak service between Centenary Village, Archerfield Road, Richlands and Darra stations to improve connectivity with rail services. We're also removing some services connecting to Inala Plaza in the shoulder peak period to improve the efficiency of the network.

In addition to these changes, we're also reducing travel times by improving bus and rail connections on routes 465 and 466.

Routes 465 and 466 will be extended during morning peak periods to provide better connectivity to Richlands station. Four trips will also be removed from route 465.

More information on these exiciting changes will be added over the coming weeks, so keep checking the website for the latest details and new timetables.
Route 465 is to be "improved" by removing 4 trips?  Great!

I just wish TL would cut some of the deadwood - 461 et al. The welfare/coverage argument doesn't apply to things like 461 because it is pure duplication.

I think we can encourage them to do it incrementally, since revolutionary change seems out of the question:
- Terminate at Richlands and keep P461 to keep sooks happy for a short while
- Delete P461
- Then, realign so it goes to and terminates at Darra
- Then cut off the Indooroopilly-City leg and put what's left in the 467/468 timetable.

Every other part of the route is covered, and this is the reasoning they use to delete services like the 257.

I agree - so much waste in the system.

Cutting 460 and the western part of the P88 would allow a BUZ 400 to be created with minimal cost.
Of course that would mean admitting making mistake - and you know, governments are incapable of making wrong
decisions - ever!

Surely we should be chopping the 461 first of all?

Dealing with political realities, I think we would have a better chance of implementing a transfer in the off-peak and then, when it is clear the sky is not falling in, getting rid of the peak same-seat service.  Perhaps TransLink might be bold and do both, but the time for that was when the mid-2011 timetables came out.
