I think that route 460 should be chopped back to Indooroopilly Shopping Centre.
Doesn't make any sense while the 88 is still running.
Offtopic: Is the 460 the route you are supposed to feed into Richlands Station with....Never realised it met every train offpeak! Weekends still hourly though  :thsdo

Back to the topic....If the 460 was 15 min frequency then yeah we could plug it into 88 and make it one route, with no interchange then needed. But then the 88 is very long, and might cause reliability issues with rail interchange at Richlands (Is it OK now?) Could it be 15 min frequency by chopping the city bit and redeploying the bus km?

I actually think though that once the Mt Ommaney area gets BUZ'ed, then the 460 need only go as far as there, so long as one of the Mt Ommaney BUZ's serves Indro.

I think there is no need to add it to route 88. Imagining how much route 88 cost to put on, for what is essentially a convenience measure, rather than an increase in mobility, I can understand why Simon doesn't like it. And I would agree with him, we could have had two BUZzes out of that (one to Bulimba and the Centenary BUZ 400).

QuoteI actually think though that once the Mt Ommaney area gets BUZ'ed, then the 460 need only go as far as there, so long as one of the Mt Ommaney BUZ's serves Indro.

I think that services should go directly to Indooroopilly. Previously (and you can see this in my posts on Centenary BUZ) maybe they could terminate at Mt Ommaney. But being there a few times, there would be a few workers who were coming from Inala/Mt Ommaney and all that who probably would value not having to change at Mt Ommaney. So I think it should just run to Indooroopilly and then you can make as many connections as one likes there (UQ/CBD/Chapel Hill/GCL/Whatever). Far more connections at Indro, so better interchange position IMHO.

I've also observed the 460 is the past few weeks and I've noticed a significant number of people alighting at Indooroopilly (during off-peak), so I think if any truncation were to occur, Indooroopilly would be best.

I have been thinking about the 460 lately, and I think the Forest Lake/Heathwood area would do well with the system set up by the 467/468 for the Sinnamon Park/Seventeen Mile Rocks area:
i.e. 465 operates peak hour to Richlands (as it does at the moment), then all services during off-peak get extended to Mt Ommaney and Indooroopilly (Route 460). Extending the 103 down College Avenue replaces the lost 460 services. Some renumbering may be necessary to avoid confusion.

So in summary:
103 BUZ: Forest Lake/Inala to Mt Ommaney via Darra Station
460: Heathwood/Forest Lake to Indooroopilly via Mt Ommaney (off-peak/weekends - connects to every service at Richlands Station )
461 (renumbered from 465): Heathwood/Forest Lake to Richlands Station (peak hour service only)
462: Heathwood/Forest Lake to Darra Station via Richlands Station (off-peak/weekends - connects to trains services to/from Ipswich at Darra Station)

Hey,so what justification is there at all for the 461 existing?

Its final stop is near Richlands station before running express to the CBD with no stops, not even at Mt Ommaney or Indro.

Why why why?  >:(

Doesn't it serve Toowong Cemetery and Milton?

I think it made some sense before Richlands station, but that could be argued

Gazza

Oooh Milton, can't get there on the train!

Toowong Cemetary? WHO wants to go to Toowong Cemetary! Only dead people live there-- they are not going to need the 461!

Perhaps people who live on Valentine St (for example) and don't feel like walking 1km to Toowong station or riding the all stops 470, still 400m or so away.

The main reason for the stop is interchange to the 457/458/459 though, which I think should be removed.

There is a nice story in Human Transit about deviations and whether some things are worth it or are not.

Cut 461 and use the savings to serve another area that will benefit more people. Maybe use the savings to boost 470 to Toowong.

Cool, so lets run 25km bus route to the 'burbs so people at one obscure stop less than 5km from the CBD can have a choice because they "dont feel like it".

You are taking my comments out of context.  Even if the 461 went these people would have the 426/431/446 on current stopping patterns, and the 455/456 could serve the area also.

Do you "feel like" walking 1km to PT?  I'm sure it could be arranged.  Perhaps you could walk to Darra, just for fun.

Oooh Milton, can't get there on the train!
Again, these routes serve Milton because people are actually going there.

Why are we having this conversation?

In reality the justification is "because we always did it that way - end of story".  Not saying it is good or even acceptable.

My nearest stop is already 820m away  :D

I've done the 1.7km walk to Oxley heaps of times too.

Edit: No, it doesn't stop at Toowong Cemetery!

Cut! Cut! Cut!

*CHAINSAW*

If people want to go to Milton... they can get the Richlands train there!

Hmm, if it doesn't stop at Toowong Cemetery then that seems like an oversight rather than intentional.

I can't think of anywhere in the SW which would be 820m from the nearest stop, let alone Oxley/17mi Rocks.  Are you ignoring the 468?

Gazza

Nah, its just my house is in an annoying spot.
And yeah I'm well aware of what routes run in my area, Simon.

Alright, but if someone came up to me in the street and said this I think I'd be willing to lay money that it wasn't so.

Is this 'man on the street' a member of a PT advocacy forum?

Funny thing is that you can get to the City faster on an ALL-STOPS Richlands-City train, INCLUDING transfer time (according to the timetable).

WASTE WASTE WASTE. Get rid of it. Re-invest buses into more frequent services from Riverhills to Darra.
