SEQ:  Public transport the way to go  for New Year's Eve celebrations

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers has thanked the Minister for Transport and Translink for extending the free public transport travel window.  The free travel is now 9pm to 5.30am (1).

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"Using public transport on New Year's Eve is the smart thing to do.  TransLink has now extended the free travel window from 9pm to 5.30am.  An excellent move."

"South East Queensland is now in line with most progressive jurisdictions in the world.  New Year's Eve is a popular celebration, and it is tragic for it to be marred by road trauma, congestion and sadness."

"We thank the Minister for Transport and TransLink for extending the free travel window, so that maximum use of public transport is now achievable.  The best outcome for the whole community."
