Be interesting to see where they hold it at Ipswich with the reconstruction now having closed the entrance down to two barriers it would seem that the only avaliable space will be on the actual platforms which tend to get very crowded.

FRUSTRATED passengers on the trouble-plagued Ferny Grove train line had a chance to vent their concerns this morning when some of Queensland Rail's top managers put themselves in the firing line.
The managers met passengers on the Ferny Grove station's platform from 6.30am till almost 9am as part of a continuing series of Queensland Rail's "Meet the Manager" sessions scheduled through April and May.

Queensland Rail Passenger Services Executive General Manager Andy Taylor said passengers this morning were consistently expressing disappointment with parking arrangements and delays with outbound Ferny Grove trains.

"Probably the biggest issue is the parking at the station.

"They say it's full by 7.15, and there's no point having good train services if you can't get access to the station," he said.

"The other thing is the delay that they experience at Keperra in the afternoon."

Passengers complained that the train sits motionless at Keperra for an inordinate amount of time while waiting for another train to pass by.

Beata Rozsa, a working mother from Upper Kedron, said the delay severely affected a host of parents who now have to change schedules to pick up children from school in the afternoon.

"We all have to adjust to the new timetable, and employers are not really happy with it so we find it difficult and disruptive to our routine.

"I've been speaking to many people about that, and all picking-up mums are just completely disrupted.

"We don't know whether we're coming or going, and the kids don't understand why we're late for pickup," she said.

Even for passengers who boarded the train while The Courier Mail was at the station, a disruptive change to the train timetable was made.

Just 30 seconds after announcing the train on the platform was the 8.20am train stopping at all stations to Beenleigh, a second announcement was made telling passengers the train would terminate at Roma St.

Citytrain General Manager Alan Gordon, another Queensland Rail manager at the station, said he had made a personal call to check that an earlier train cancellation was being covered.

"The train that normally comes out here actually had a difficulty on the southside and had to be cancelled, so we got another train to come out here quickly to take the people back into town.

"There will be another train waiting at Central to connect with that train, and the people will change there.

"It's difficult, but those operational things do happen from time to time, but the thing is we got the train away on time, which is the important part," he said.

For anyone who missed the chance to personally express their views on Queensland Rail's recent performance, future "Meet the Manager" sessions are scheduled at many different stations, usually between 6am and 9am.

Next week you can "Meet the Manager" at Beenleigh station on Tuesday, Manly station on Wednesday, Petrie station on Thursday and Enoggera station on Friday.
