North Lakes depot may be answer to residents' prayers

Mango Hill residents are hoping the new Hornibrook Bus Depot, in North Lakes, will solve a problem that has plagued them for years.

Resident George Mathieson said the lack of bus stops around Halpine Lake was a big problem for residents.

"We only have one bus stop in this whole area, despite the population growing by the day," Mr Mathieson said.

"There is a bus service in Mango Hill Village and one stop on Halpine Drive but for many residents, especially the older ones, it is a pretty long walk to the nearest bus stop, which doesn't really encourage people to use public transport."

Mr Mathieson said certain areas were ignored completely.

"We really need bus stops through the back of Freshwater Creek, there are lots of new homes going in back there but no bus stop for the new residents," he said.

"With all the bus stops added in North Lakes and plans for the new depot, I hope this will be addressed as the other alternative, the rail, is still a long way off."

Hornibrook Buslines business manager Martin Hall said the North Lakes depot had been strategically placed to service surrounding areas.

"TransLink and Hornibrook Buslines are both aware of the population growth in both Mango Hill and North Lakes," Mr Hall said.

"The future looks positive for network planning in these areas in conjunction with TransLink's plans."

New buses are expected to run out of the new North Lakes  depot by the end of the month.
