Queensland Rail is currently negotiating with unions on a number of workplace agreements.

Queensland Rail has received formal advice from unions that maintenance and shunting employees intend to take industrial action next week.

Maintenance employees have advised they will hold stop-work meetings Tuesday (15 November) and shunters will hold stop-work meetings on Friday (18 November).

Queensland Rail and Translink are working together to ensure disruptions to Queensland Rail customers are minimised as far as possible.

Queensland Rail is seeking further assistance from Fair Work Australia to work with all parties to resolve this situation prior to a disruption to customers.

We are disappointed with this outcome. Queensland Rail remains committed to an open, productive and mutually beneficial bargaining process with unions.

Customers and the community will be kept continually updated about the progress of negotiations.

Ummm... the whole of the Mayne depot is under local shunt control and is not part of the BSA network. Without local shunters no trains enter or leave the yards.  :hg

QUEENSLAND Rail is bracing for industrial action with shunting workers set to walk off the job for four hours on Friday.

Bruce Mackie from the Rail, Tram and Bus Union said the action would take place outside of peak periods to minimise disruption to the public.

A QR spokesman said contingency plans were being put in place to avoid any major delays in the event of a train breakdown during the strike.

Negotiations with QR maintenance workers over pay are continuing in the Industrial Relations Commission after they withdrew plans to strike tomorrow.

A PLANNED strike by Queensland Rail workers this Friday has been called off.

Shunting workers were expected to walk off the job for four hours as part of their campaign for a pay rise of more than 2.5 per cent.

QR's Chief Human Resources Officer Robin Franklin said it was "a positive outcome for their customers".

"We appreciate that the negotiations were conducted in good faith by all concerned," said Mr Franklin.

"It is consistent with QR's objective of reaching a negotiated outcome which is beneficial for our employees and our business."

The action was not expected to have caused significant disruption to train services but QR had made contingency plans in the event of a train breakdown.
