QuoteAbout the Queensland Rail Classic

Queensland Rail is giving 3,000 Brisbane locals the chance to participate in a 5km fun run/walk to raise vital funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The inaugural Queensland Rail Classic fun run/walk will be a family-friendly, fun day out, with food, entertainment and attractions open to all entrants after the run/walk.

"The Queensland Rail Classic will become an annual event, providing people with a wonderful opportunity to raise money for a worthy cause while exercising, socialising, and enjoying the entertainment and attractions as well," Queensland Rail CEO Paul Scurrah said.

"In the lead up to Bridge to Brisbane, this is a great chance for people to get involved in another fun run/walk and treat it as a warm-up event."

The fun run/walk will take place at 8.30 am on 21 August at the Roma Street Parklands, commencing from Celebration Lawn with a unique route taking participants through TransLink's Inner Northern Busway, which will be specially closed for the event.

All proceeds from the 2011 Queensland Rail Classic registration will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Mr X

Taking people through the INB is hardly unique. The JDRF diabetes walk did it in '05 and '06 and possibly every year after that...

Good cause none the less  ;) Would be cool to have a walk through the South East Busway but when you consider the amount of buses that go through, that might not be possible  ???

Good morning All,

By now I hope you have heard about our exciting new Fun Run(/Walk) – the Queensland Rail Classic. This exciting new fun run follows a unique course starting at Roma St Parklands and allowing participants to run through the Inner Northern Busway tunnels – a first for Brisbane, thanks to our partners at TransLink!

All profits from the event will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation – a very worthy cause.

Please show your support for Queensland Rail and our community efforts by registering at www.queenslandrail.com.au

And please forward to any keen runners (and walkers) you know who might enjoy a pleasant Sunday morning run and post run celebrations at Roma St Parklands.

Best

Public transport is bad enough on a Sunday morning without the busway being closed.  ::)
