Does anyone know if there are any targets for PT use in QLD?  I don't think I've ever seen one except for the 1997 IRTP.

I believe GCCC may have its own agenda.  It is putting together a City Transport Strategy at the moment which is intended to dovetail with the various State Gov statutory plans.

Aren't there some on the draft Connecting SEQ document? 14% or something IIRC.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Yes.  Good point, although they would probably say that its just a draft.  They have no plan on following through with most of that.

Why would you, we are already world class  ;D

On the other hand It would not be hard to get PT usage to 30% in 10 years, More BUZs, streamlining of bus routes, Bus lanes and better train frequency off peak.

Perhaps we should tell Transport for NSW that this is easy?

Here's a link for all 8 cities PT share for usual trip to work or study: http://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/abs@.nsf/Lookup/4102.0Chapter10102008

Hmmm, that has Brisbane at 17.5% for PT, but the 7% that we're at according to Connecting SEQ was for total trips, not just work/education trips. Still, we're doing better than I thought we were. IIRC there's some suburbs (Taringa?) where 40-50% of residents use PT for work trips, which I think makes it important to note both aggregate data, but also to look more closely at where its coming from.

Even the highest numbers on the ABS site are no cause for celebration.  ~25% use PT for usual trip to work or study in Sydney?  Shouldn't this be over 50%?  To be fair, of course, it is well over that for those working in the Sydney CBD (over 70%), it's the other employment destinations which do not have high PT mode shares.  I have read that the Perth CBD has a 47% PT share, I expect around 55% for Brisbane CBD and somewhere in the 60s for Melbourne CBD.

I don't mean to be a pessimist, but I reckon that 30% PT usage in Brisbane would actually be pretty difficult. Just because of the way Brisbane is.
My understanding is that 30% would be considered very good even in those cities with far better, and far more popular, public transport.

30% of work trips is different though - that should be achievable. Going by those ABS figures linked I think it'd actually be disappointing if we weren't over 20% now. Brisbane has had very impressive growth in PT usage given that it went from an all time low in 2000, to on par with Melbourne a few years later.

In 15 years the gabba, bowen hills, the valley and south brisbane will all be part of the city, We can easily achieve 50%+ of all trips in those suburbs

Although Brisbane's PT use stopped growing around the time that TTA was formed. Melbourne's continued to grow.

Presumably that ABS data came from the census.  Hopefully we'll have more data soon.

There was still significant growth between 2003 and 2006. Granted, Melbourne's was higher.

Anecdotally - it seemed to me like this trend continued through to and including the time fuel prices spiked, especially on the busway corridor (remember the full buses??). Since then, much less so. But I'd say we've still seen solid growth compared to what it was in 2006.

Unfortunately I don't think the results of the 2011 census are due out for another year or so.

TTA was formed in 2008, shortly after a certain Minister took on the role.  Although I guess you can say that bus patronage did still have a small amount of growth.
