Police close Operation Juliet Dismantle
QuotePolice have closed a successful graffiti operation, charging seven people with almost 800 counts of wilful damage by graffiti.

Operation Juliet Dismantle commenced on March 3, 2011, after members of the joint Brisbane City Council and Queensland Police Service Task Force Against Graffiti, identified significant damage to the council and Queensland Rail property during the past four years.

Task Force Against Graffiti members identified a number of tags on trains that were left unattended during the January flood disaster, which matched the vandalism caused on other council property. The total charges below equal damage exceeding $113,000.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said this was a major win for the graffiti taskforce and proved it was continuing to get results.

"I am committed to rid Brisbane's streets of illegal graffiti as part of my vision of a clean city and I commend the efforts of the joint graffiti taskforce of police and Council officers," he said.

Detective Superintendent John Sheppard of the State Crime Operations Command's Organised Crime Group said the success of the operation was a combination of excellent work across several agencies.

"This operation has provided significant results for the taskforce who have been producing great results in locating those responsible for causing widespread damage across the community, in particular during a time when Brisbane was devastated by the floods. These arrests are a result of good intelligence work by police in collaboration with multiple agencies all working towards the same goal," Detective Superintendent Sheppard said.
