More parking and more trains at Cooroy

Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk has welcomed the opening of 40 new park 'n' ride spaces at Cooroy train station.

Ms Palaszczuk said the upgraded facility on Elm Street included improved drainage, lighting and CCTV coverage, making it easier and safer place to park your car.

"The work was funded under the Bligh Government's $200 million Station Upgrade program to upgrade almost one third of train stations across South East Queensland," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"The program is the biggest upgrade since services began in the 1860s and will give these stations new and improved facilities.

"The Bligh Government has added more than 2500 car parks at stations across the network since 2009, including Cooroy.

"Another 560 new park 'n' ride spaces are being built with another 650 being planned now."

Ms Palaszczuk said Cooroy train station also had two new train services per weekday under timetable changes introduced on the Sunshine Coast line on June 6.

"A new northbound train departs Roma Street station at 9.33am, stopping at Cooroy at 11.57am, before continuing on to Pomona, Cooran and Traveston and arriving at Gympie North station at 12.39pm.

"This train then departs Gympie North station at 1.20pm, stopping at Cooroy station at 2.03pm, then continuing on to Brisbane, arriving at Roma Street station at 4.21pm.

"These new train services will allow Cooroy residents to leave the car at home and travel between key centres on the northern end of the Sunshine Coast using public transport.

"TransLink is working to make public transport safe, easy and convenient for customers throughout South East Queensland," Ms Palaszczuk said.

For further information about the project, visit the TransLink website or phone the TransLink Call Centre on 13 12 30, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
