The NBN  http://www.nbnco.com.au/  may have some implications for transport.  It might be possible to have regional work hubs, less direct demands on radial commutes and so forth as more individuals may spend some work hours at home for example.

So worth watching.

Goodna to join NBN in November

QuoteGoodna to join NBN in November

3rd August 2011

SLOW internet speeds in Goodna and Springfield Lakes will soon be a thing of the past after NBN Co announced that preliminary site works for the national broadband network will commence in November.

The activation of full services is expected to be a reality by the end of 2012.

NBN Co CEO Mike Quigley said the use of Telstra's infrastructure should "reduce the amount of disruption for the community and provide a smoother and more efficient rollout".

Councillor Paul Tully said it was "great news for the eastern suburbs of Ipswich".

"I have been a strong supporter of NBN because it will connect almost all of Australia with one of the biggest networks in the world," he said.

"There are many people in the eastern suburbs who can't get ADSL2 because of limitations on both the Goodna exchange and Redbank Plains exchange.

"This is fantastic for the local residents, schools and businesses."

The QT understands that Goodna will be first to receive the much needed service. It won't be before time.

"Now people will have higher speed, connectivity and they won't be relying on dial-up or low speed broadband," Cr Tully said.

"I get many complaints from people about the slow speed of the network and the number of dropouts.

"This is going to be a major boost – particularly for Goodna having gone through the floods and the problems people are experiencing rebuilding homes

"The days of sitting in front of computers waiting for pages to appear will soon be over. The pricing will be important. Pricing needs to be competitive with current broadband plans."

Stillwater

There may be money to be had in a private individual setting up an office suite with a conference room, kitchen, toilets, small offices and a room of work spaces, all connected to fast broadband where individuals can come in off the streets and hire space for a few hours.  Or is that what a Starbucks is?
