Government misses Go Card deadline on Air Train line

Friday, 29 February 2008

COMMUTERS are still unable to use Go Card on the Airtrain service, despite the State Labor Government?s promise it would be available by February.

In a report into congestion at the Airport Roundabout late last year, Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said the Go Card would be available on the AirTrain service this month.

Shadow Minister for Transport Tim Nicholls said despite the Minister?s promise, the Smartcard machine at the Airtrain station had yet to be activated.

"This is just another example of the State Government?s inability to run efficient public transport services in Queensland," he said.

"The Go Card machine is sitting there ready and waiting. It?s just not working."

Despite the official roll-out of the Go Card on Monday, commuters are still unable to use the service at the Altandi and Runcorn CityTrain stations or on AirTrain services.

"The Go Card was one of the State Government?s solutions to solving the congestion that continues to plague the Airport roundabout," Mr Nicholls said.

"But so far the only solution that has been given the go ahead is diverting traffic onto the already congested Kingsford Smith Drive."

"If this Government is serious about solving congestion at the Airport Roundabout and encouraging commuters to use the GoCard, they need to make the system available on every South-East Queensland rail service."
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...
