PASSENGERS at Brisbane's busiest railway stations have been left wondering whether Kevin Rudd has a second job.

Queensland Rail customer service assistant Greg Toohey is now quite used to people mistaking his voice for that of former prime minister Kevin Rudd when he announces trains at Central, Valley and Roma Street stations.

"I don't think I sound like him but others do, so I guess I do play up to it.

"If it makes people pay more attention to my announcements then that's a good thing. I'm succeeding in my job," said Mr Toohey .

He said just as the Foreign Minister tended to favour big words and very precise pronunciation, so did he.

"I'm trying to be as precise as I can, and certain phrases I use, such as 'salutations and felicitations', probably sound similar to the sort of phrases Mr Rudd uses."

A QR spokeswoman said it was not unusual for people to approach staff on the platform and inquire about the identity of the station announcer, and provide feedback about his announcements.

The rail authority has even been asked if it was using Mr Rudd as station announcer as a promotional stunt.

Mr Toohey said he did not mind being mistaken for Mr Rudd, who he thought was "quite a witty speaker".

"I do look forward to the day when someone asks Mr Rudd, 'Aren't you the fellow who announces the trains at Central Station?'," he laughed.
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...

Announcements being made at Central station in the pm.

This just before we all cram onto the 5:20 crusher train home.
"Thank you for choosing City Network as your preferred mode of public transport"

Well better than an announcement of
"Will the passengers on the 5.20 service to Nambour please all breath in so that we can close the doors so the train can depart"
That is being pre recorded for next week.   :hc
