'Bligh cannot keep ignoring Glass House'

GLASS House MP Andrew Powell says he "will be watching with keen anticipation" that next week's State Budget does not let down his electorate.

Mr Powell, the shadow environment minister, said the Glass House was "let down" by last year's state budget.

"I'm expecting better this year," he said.

Mr Powell said a priority should be given to funding for the North Coast Rail Duplication following the delay announced last year that the duplication from Beerburrum to Nambour would be until 2031.

"This vital infrastructure is the centrepiece of our region's public transport network and if the Sunshine Coast is to accommodate an expanding population the Bligh Labor Government must allocate funding to restart this project now," Mr Powell said.

He said the D'Aguilar Highway needed upgrades after a request under the Black Spot Funding program went "unanswered".

He said there also needed to be an "immediate upgrade" to the Reed St and Steve Irwin Way intersection.

"This dangerous intersection serves as the only access in and out of the township and its many residential communities," Mr Powell said.

Maleny-Kenilworth Rd and Grigor Bridge at Conondale both need infrastructure investment, he said.

The case for Beerburrum-Nambour duplication won't be won through the media.  Mr Powell shouts, not that the government might hear, but that his constituents will remember his name on the ballot paper.

My take on this is that I am now hearing the opposition MP's publicly call for the rail infrastructure needs to be addressed.
In a run up to an election it is an optimistic development in light of the previous reports where no such undertaking was given.

Of course.

Shouting now has a small meaning: the real deal is what is their actual policy going to be?  And in particular, are they going to get rid of all stopping to Northgate!

According to the ICRCS wasnt there supposed to be  a 5th track to northgate completed ed last year?
"Where else but Queensland?"

There are quite a few things in the ICRCS which seem to me to be unneeded, not increasing capacity, and this is one of them.

Out of interest Simon, if you commuted between Nundah and the CBD in the peak direction, what frequency of train service would you expect?

That is a good question.  Obviously, I would always like better, but I think the 3 minute frequency which applies around 8am is surplus to what anyone could reasonably expect.  If there was 8tph, I would find it hard to complain.

8tph on the suburbans is only achievable on current infrastructure with 24tph through the CBD.  I think 4tph express EJ-BH would reduce the complaining to a small grumble.  Best that can be done pre-CRR with 20tph IMO.

It would leave the bypassed stations with a 17 minute gap.

Which is not acceptable.
It is according to their standard!  It's only 2 minutes off the 15 minute standard; are the 2 minutes really that big of a deal?

Yes. If all Ipswich and Caboolture Line stations are served every 12 minutes, then I'm sure Nundah and Toombul residents would not appreciate a 17 minute service gap, whilst 18tph bypass their stations!
I think you are confusing posts in two threads there.

Firstly 20 minutes is their standard, most places in the world the mark would/should be every 15 minutes.

Would 15 minute frequency for Nundah/Toombul then be acceptable?  If not, why is it acceptable at Nudgee?  I consider it an irrelevance that 18tph are bypassing the station.  In Sydney, approximately 40-50tph (OTOH) pass Newtown in peak, and only around 4-8tph actually stop.  (6 tracks, 2 platforms)  Newtown is also quite a popular station, you can catch a bohemian vibe similar to West End.  Newtown people can deal with it, why wouldn't/shouldn't Nundah people?

Would the 4tph express Eagle Junction-Bowen Hills be an acceptable peak service in your view?

Since I've answered your question.
