High-calibre team heads ports, rail, energy, water bodies

Treasurer and Minister for Trade Tim Nicholls today announced the appointment of fourteen directors to the boards of Queensland's ports, rail, energy and water bodies.

Mr Nicholls said the new appointees brought an ideal skill set to the Government-owned corporations.

"Power, water, the State's passenger rail network, ports – for these essential services, the GOCs have to get it absolutely right," Mr Nicholls said.

"If we are going to deliver better infrastructure and planning and better value for money for Queenslanders, our GOCs must have a strong leadership base.

"This is what these directors bring to the table."

Gordonvale sugarcane grower and former Cairns councillor Paul Gregory and Bell Potter Securities client advisor Greg Nucifora have been appointed to the board of Ports North (Far North Queensland Ports Corporation Ltd). They join Robert Macalister who has been reappointed.

Engineer Alan Grummitt brings 50 years' experience in ports and harbour engineering to his appointment as a director of North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation Ltd.

UDP Consulting Engineers managing director Patrick Brady will join the board of Port of Townsville Ltd (POTL).  Jessups Accountants and Business Advisors partner Ian Jessup and commercial, corporate and property lawyer Dominique Tim So have also been appointed to the POTL board.

Dawson Petie has been reappointed to the Queensland Rail board. Mr Petie is joined by industrial and employment solicitor Geoff Harley, chief executive officer of the Collaborative Research Centre for Rail Innovation David George and infrastructure director with QC Resource Investments Wendy McMillan.

Independent energy consultant, sessional member of the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal and Southbank Institute of Technology board member Sandra Deane has been appointed as a director of Energex Ltd.

Gary Humphrys returns to the board of Ergon Energy Corporation Ltd. He will be joined by new appointees John Love and John Gardner.

Mr Love is a property developer and former electrical contractor and Mr Gardner is a property developer and former CEO of Northern Territory Power and Water Authority.

Kenneth Howard has been reappointed to the board of Powerlink. Industrial relations and human resources specialist Anne Barclay will join Mr Howard on the board.

Queensland University of Technology economics and finance senior lecturer Dr William Wild has been appointed to the board of SunWater Ltd. Dr Wild is a former vice president of the Bank of America in Hong Kong.

Mr Nicholls paid tribute to outgoing directors John Bird and Susan Forrester (Ergon); Walter Threlfall (Powerlink); Jack Camp, Jodie Siganto and Lesley Anderson (Far North Queensland Ports Corporation); Graham Davies, Julie Bignell and Robynne Dudley (North Queensland Bulk Ports); Professsor Stephen Graw, the Honourable Tony McGrady AM, Rabieh Krayem, Natalie Scopelliti and Di Zetlin (Port of Townsville); Maureen Hayes, Denise McMillan-Hall and Dr Leo Keliher (Queensland Rail); Bronwyn Morris (QIC); and John Gibson and Tony Mooney (SunWater).

"Together, these directors brought enormous energy, experience and direction to a critical program of change in Queensland's GOC sector."
