Rail is a priority in Division 2

It's going to be a hard slog for whoever takes on the role as caretaker for Division 2.

Already the area is beginning to groan under the pressure of an increased population, so the issue of sustainability has an added sense of urgency in this electorate.

Golden Beach Progress Association president Mick Graham reckons priority number one for the new councillor will be to speed up the Camcos rail line.

He said it was imperative it?s done before the completion of the hospital at Kawana Waters.

?With the construction of the new hospital, it should be done as quickly as possible,? Mr Graham said.

?The hospital is due to open 2014, but a railway line will be needed sooner so it could transport tradespeople, students and staff.?

Mr Graham said the second most important issue for council is finding a quick and practical solution to the relocation of the Caloundra airport so workers are no longer in limbo.

As someone who has enjoyed living on the esplanade at Golden Beach for many years, Mr Graham is also concerned at the amount of highrise buildings going up.

?There seems to be a lot more being allowed than originally intended,? he said.

?That really needs to be reviewed. In NSW, no development is allowed within 400 metres of the high water mark without it going through the state government. I think it?s about time we started looking at that.?

Other things Mr Graham sees as priorities for the division are a sports stadium to cater for 50,000 spectators, widening the major arterial roads and strictly monitoring the major residential development at Caloundra South.
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...
