Poll results will be available after everyone has voted. (5 days)/ :is-

LRT basically replacing 199 and the CityGlider.

IMHO ASAP and "5 years" are much the same option anyway, as any realistic LRT project is going to take that long to evaluate, tender, construct & commission.

Or do you mean "when should we start building LRT"?

#Metro

When should we start building it (i.e. when should construction works start).
Votes can be changed up until the close of poll.
Results will be visible after poll end.

QuoteLRT basically replacing 199 and the CityGlider.
Question though, would one or the other need to remain, since they both go quite wide apart from each other at some points?

The way I see it, it would be a misdirection of funds to build in the next 5-10 years.

The system would be about 7.5 km long, and if you use the price per km of the GCLRT it would cost about $560 Million to build.

-If it is using state government funds, that should be going towards removing rail network bottlenecks and building stuff like CAMCOS.

-If it is using BCC funds, that should be going towards BUZzing most of the network. For $560 million you could pretty much do a comprehensive grid network at high frequency unlike anything Brisbane has today, and that would carry massive benefits.

19x inbound from New Farm in the morning are stretched over the limit. Crush loads on every bus with many passengers left behind. This is with more than one bus every 5 minutes. I don't see how capacity can be improved too much from here without LRT or something better. No offence to anyone from the suburbs but we inner-city-dwellers deserve better public transport IMO. How many routes do you see turning a profit? I'll give you a hint: you don't need to count any routes through suburbs with "Lakes" in the name.

Why haven't they switched to artics / "superbuses with 3 doors" yet?

I believe the road and busway system as it is, is not compatible ..
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...

And so you propose a metro that could easily cost 5x this cost and takes at least 20 years at least to wait and also may never get the patronage required in this area?  ???

Exactly. If there was LRT you would be getting more people because those people behind could get on.
And its probably turning profits! What's the holdup? 195 is also in there too.

I agree!!  :pr

I've crunched the numbers and I am certain that before the CityGlider was introduced the 199 was making a profit. I am unaware of actual passenger numbers since CityGlider but anecdotally they don't appear to have dropped much. I suspect 196/197 is up there as well.

The results of the LRT survey are available now. :tr
