I think the 412 is a very short route in comparison to other routes.  Therefore, I think there is a case for it to be extended.

Extending to replace the 411 is far superior to having a separate truncated route to cover the Hawken Drive service.  I don't see much downside to this one, so long as all the stops on Hawken Drive/Swann Rd/Gailey Rd are served.

As for extending to 8 Mile Plains, on a northbound route of the Margaret St ramp, George St, Ann St ramp, with a south bound route of North Quay, William St, Alice St ramp would mean that the stops could be provided around the corner from the current 412 stops at North Quay 106, 111, William St 107, George St 108 and 116 (or a new stop approaching Adelaide St).
Pro: Provide a reasonable service to Parliament.  Also doesn't move the city stop location from that part of town much, so should be a low level of opposition.
Con: Not possible to have a common stop with the via Cultural Centre SE Busway service.

What about Extending it to Indro instead of back to Taringa. I feel UQ-Indro are important enough to be linked directly full time.

I assume you meant Toowong, not Taringa.

I tend to favour sorting out CBD trips before other trips.  And you could do that just by adding 428 trips.  Of course, UQ & Indro are connected full time, with an interchange at Toowong at some times.

Gazza

Yeah, did mean Toowong.

I did say:

Why?

somebody

You did too say "directly".

CBD bound trips are the lion's share, and especially somewhere like UQ, with the river on one side and forest on the NW.  You can really only go N, to the CBD or away from it (ignoring green bridge routes).

The 411 needs an upgrade IMO.  There should be a BUZ along there.  Perhaps you could argue that there are other priorities.

Why does 411 need a BUZ upgrade?

Far too far to walk to a reasonable service, and it's quite an inner part of Brisbane.

411 doesn't necessarily need to be BUZed, just give it better service than it has now. Once an hour on Sundays is a joke!

I tend to think that the BUZ service level is the minimum service level to make PT attractive.

#Metro

I would support more services on Sunday.
It is tempting to BUZ everything but I wonder if we need to be selective. Not everything can be BUZzed.
411 is an all stops service, and would make a good "frequent local" if you know what I mean.

I think we need to have LESS routes and fewer buses going down Coronation Drive, just like the busways have a few routes.
More 411 could be in that mix. They need to ban parking on the hilly sections- it is like riding a rollercoaster and to have a car
parked there- unbelieveable!

If it were a BUZ I would support it as 411 not an extension of 412. Loopy routes can be confusing on maps.

^That was my concern too. So when the 412 gets to UQ and "turns into" the 411 replacement on its way back to Toowong, would it terminate at Toowong and people change to the Train, or would it overlap with the existing 412 all the way to the city to provide a 7.5 minute service?

On the outbound, boarding at Toowong you'd have "Via Hawken" and "Via Sir Fred Schonell" turning up at the same stops which could be confusing.

I'd much rather extend to Indro. Indro UQ is actually very important IMO.
In my first year at UQ I was kind of silly and always caught the Inbound train, got off at Indro, then took a bus from there to UQ. It wasn't till my second year that I worked out it was faster to go via Toowong and the 412 instead!  :-r

Anyway, the 428 was a very busy route, often full standing loads. Sure, it's not a CBD route, but it actually has a population that would use it well...So many potential trips to be captured.

somebody

Boarding at the southbound side of Benson St at Toowong, you'd have either "City BUZ via St Lucia and UQ - 412" or "Toowong BUZ via UQ and St Lucia - 412", I expect.  Is it really that confusing?  It's not like getting the wrong one doesn't take you to the right place, just by a slower route.  Stop maps should help.

Gazza

So if someone was boarding on an ex 411 segment, would they have to transfer to reach the CBD?

That would be the best option, but they could also go around via UQ.

somebody

With the destination displays for the city-St Lucia-Toowong direction, how about "St Lucia BUZ/Clockwise loop Toowong to Toowong/via UQ".

Heading inbound you may need to balance it with something like "City BUZ/Anti clockwise to Toowong/via UQ"

Perhaps these could be tweaked.
