This morning I travelled in SMU 296 from Goodna to Indooroopilly.  This unit has an advertising wrap on the windows

I noticed there was a marked reduction in the sunlight entering the carriage, was very bright early morning.

A couple of comments on twitter suggest that it might be bit of visibility issue at night.  Anyone been on these units at night and can comment?

Depends on the angle that your seated at ie seeing through more holes or side-on close up seeing more of the advertisment. There is a reduction in light getting through which is a given as there is a seperate material on the outside but at night the onboard lights tend to reflect light on the glass. Arriving at a lit station there should be less visability but things are still readable in low light situations ie station signs. They are only on the newer rollingstock which all have the boards saying what station is next. But as I said before its all about viewing angles and seating position.

Talking of advertising...

Has anyone noticed the new advertising stickers being placed in the new IMU series trains on the roof over the top of the seats.
They have been around for a couple of months now and I see more trains are carrying them.
Ususally 3 (spaced along the length of the carriage) over each side of the train's seating.

Advertisements seen are for a jewelery shop called Secrets, Virgin airlines and travel company etc.

New revenue raising venture for when the on-board poster boards are full perhaps.
