Route 104 (Corinda to PA Hospital via Tennyson) is under review at the moment.  The advice that was given to me by the planner who's involved in reviewing this service, is that there will probably be a slightly reduced service as passenger loadings is low, most of the patronage is in the local Corinda area and not beyond, and they are looking at extending the service through to Buranda via the Boggo Road busway.  They are also planning on integrating this service with route 105 so people can make a transfer from route 104 to route 105 if they so wish to in the Graceville area.  All the other routes that feed into the Ipswich-Caboolture rail lines are under review at the moment.

IMHO it should go to UQ Lakes

Maybe the Corinda bit could be done by other route, 101 or 102, and the 104 take over the Indro service from the 105/108, which would be abolished, the former for 107 workings.

What to do with this route?

If it is a rail replacement route, it should run with rail like frequency- at least every 30 minutes, with extended hours (10 pm). What ideas do people have?

It could be extended to Inala or Richlands even (ok, richlands a bit far), with the other end extending to UQ-PA Hospital Busway and Park Road Rail station.

At the Ipswich line CRG meeting this evening there was some discussion on the 104.  It is clear that it will need considerable boosting, something which has not been confirmed by TransLink.

The lack of specific information concerning the bus arrangements to support the new rail timetable is a serious failing.  The travelling public is expected to just accept broad assurances.

TransLink seems to be  more occupied with introducing wasteful routes such as the 88, and hosing down the rage out in Ipswich, rather than working on proper initiatives to support the new rail timetables.

Maybe richlands is too far. Inala is within range though.

I can see the appeal of SB's idea of cutting the 160 now. What is the point of all these routes duplicating each other? Most people get on the busway at street stops, not busway stops. It is the frequency on the feeder sections of the bus routes leading into the busway that need a frequency boost, the frequency on the busway itself is already very good.

I would put it more like this: "TL are more concerned with reducing complaints than promoting PT use".  As for Ipswich, I do have some sympathy for them there.  The changes have more positives than negatives.  It is in general a positive step, even if a few people are less well served.

Media release 18 December 2010

SEQ: Please improve bus route 104 services if Tennyson rail services are axed

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org), a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters asks TransLink to consider improvements to bus route 104 (Corinda to PA Hospital via Tennyson) particularly if Tennyson rail services connecting the Beenleigh and Ipswich lines are axed as flagged in the draft 2011 rail timetable for the Ipswich line (1,2,3).

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"The Route 104 is an 'around town' bus service which connects Corinda, Tennyson, Yeerongpilly and the PA Hospital, and it fills in for the Tennyson rail services when they do not run."

"RAIL Back on track understands that the 104 bus route is currently under review."

RAIL Back on Track suggests that in order to provide a decent level of service if all rail services are removed, services run:

* Every 15 minutes between 7 - 9 am in the morning peak hour
* Every 15 minutes between 4 - 6 pm in the afternoon peak hour
* At a standard 30 minute frequency during off-peak times
* The last service to be at 7 pm

"This would only require the addition of a minimal number of bus services to the current timetable to reach this level of service. For example, there is already 15 minute frequency between 7 - 8 am between the current 104 bus services and the Moorooka bound morning train."

Other considerations could include routing via Fairfield Road and the inclusion of stops at:

* UQ Lakes
* PA Hospital Busway Station
* Park Road RAIL Station
* Buranda Busway Station

"Such improvements would improve the legibility of the service, give the route a chance to attract more patronage and allow onward connections to Cleveland, Beenleigh, Gold Coast, Eight Mile Plains/Logan and Carindale through a single transfer at Park Road and Buranda."

"The current Route 104 service simply does not offer this high level of integration and connection with the rest of the wider network, and a high level of connection and integration is essential for such 'around town' bus services which do not enter the CBD."

"Potential extension into the CBD via the SE Busway could also be considered."

"RAIL Back on Track asks TransLink to please consider engaging with Route 104 and Tennyson line passengers while reviewing these services. Providing a decent standard of service will ensure proper connections at key locations throughout the network, and a reasonable alternative for those who may well lose their rail service."
