The program will include all TransLink Sunbus services, council FlexiLink services, Glasshouse Country Coaches and Council Cabs. All services are free to everyone during this time.

Sunbus timetables are available from the TransLink website. For information and timetables for other local services including Hinterland Connect, Maleny-Landsborough-Beerwah, Council Cabs and FlexiLink visit the Sunshine Coast website or call Sunshine Coast Regional Council on (07) 5475 7272.

Santa brings gift of free buses

SANTA'S elves are today trialling the new bus service to Sunshine Coast Airport to meet Santa on his direct flight from the North Pole.

It's Christmas Eve and stockpiling gifts is a hefty job for Santa's helpers, but the 622 route took them straight to the Marcoola airport.

But more importantly they bring a message which will be welcomed by locals and visitors alike.

There will be free buses on the Coast from Boxing Day to January 9.

Sunshine Coast Airport general manager Peter Pallot said airport staff were thrilled to be able to assist in preparing for Santa's arrival.

"This is a very busy time for the elves as they prepare for Santa's visit to homes on the Sunshine Coast," Mr Pallot said.

"We are also delighted that for the first time, this year the elves can make use of the bus service right to the airport's front door.

"Airport staff have also spent a lot of time polishing the runway lights to ensure Santa's safe and swift arrival and departure.

"We have negotiated special arrangements with the Air Traffic controllers to grant Santa clear airspace over the entire Sunshine Coast so he can complete his deliveries on time.

Erin Costigan-Mahony, from Sunshine Coast Council's TravelSmart division, said the free buses for a 15-day holiday period was believed to be an Australian-first.

"In past years, it's just been done in the Noosa region but this year the free buses are spreading across the whole Sunshine Coast," she said.

"It's not just Sunbus but also the Glasshouse country service, Hinterland Connect and the New Year's Eve services.

"It's free any stop, any time, any bus for 15 days, funded by the council's Public Transport Levy."
