From tomorrow night all NightLink services (except Route N199) will depart Brunswick St instead of Warner St.

Trying to think how that is possible.  Maybe start on Brunswick St between St Pauls Tce and Wickham St?

I would say that patronage on Nightlink has reduced since most routes no longer served the Ann St island stop 216 in March of last year.  A lot of people used to get on there!

EDIT: Another problem is that, again, people aren't given notice.  The day before the change takes effect is just ridiculous.  It is no wonder that people don't like change, with the way the changes are implemented.

Funny that I cannot find anything on the TL website about this, and nothing referenced in the tweet either.

There was a news item on ABC Radio News about changes in the Valley, changes in PT, more senior police, chill out zones ..

Maybe the tweet pre-empted the media blitz and the obligatory media statement.

Drink Safe project starts in Fortitude Valley

QuoteDrink Safe project starts in Fortitude Valley

By Donna Field

A new trial to improve safety in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley entertainment area starts this weekend.

The plan will see more senior police working, chill-out zones for party-goers and better organisation of transport for people leaving the area.

The Queensland Government is funding the Drink Safe project.

Valley Liquor Accord (VLA) chairman Andrew McKenzie says bar and club owners want to see the project work and feel they're contributing.

"The VLA's not aware of what the Government is spending in respect of the Drink Safe project," he said.

"However what we are aware [of] is that licence fees for licencees in the area have increased from zero dollars to $20,000 per annum over the past three years, so VLA members are paying in excess of $1 million in licence fees."

Mr McKenzie says it makes sense to share responsibility for safety in the area.

"The Valley Liquor Accord and myself as chairman are committed to seeing this be successful," he said.

"We've driven the focus from ... knee jerk reactions to licences to such a coordinated approach across Government, council, community groups and the VLA."

Eyes down for transport info

Revellers will have more help getting home from this weekend.

Projected signs and timetables will make it a little easier for late-night Fortitude Valley party-goers to find their way home.

Translink will install the 'GOBO' projection lenses, which will project information on footpaths and buildings, in front of Valley venues in the lead-up to Christmas.

Up-to-date timetables will also be projected on to the Westpac Bank building, opposite McWhirters and Brunswick Street Mall.

Valley Liquor Accord chairman Andrew McKenzie said all licencees had agreed to have GOBO lights installed outside their venues.

"If you've ever been out in the Valley on a weekend, you know transportation is a bit of an issue and often you can walk out of a venue and you don't even know where to go to get a cab or the train or the buses," he said.

"These will really help out in that regard."

The image projected on the footpath outside each venue will say "Secure Taxi Rank and NightLink services", with arrows pointing to the nearest transport options.

"When [patrons] leave the venue, they'll just have to look down to see where they need to go," he said.

"[The projection on the Westpac building] is going to show bus times, when they're going, all that sort of thing."

Transport Minister Rachel Nolan said each venue will have a specially tailored GOBO lens to direct customers to the nearest transport options.

Ms Nolan said the number of NightLink bus services would also double from tonight.

NightLink buses would run on 15 routes every 30 minutes from 1am to 5.30am from tonight to Saturday, December 18.

They will run again on New Year's Eve, instead of the normal hourly services.

NightLink buses, apart from route N199, will depart from opposite the Valley Metro on Brunswick Street, rather than Warner Street.

"This brings the NightLink bus and train services together for the first time, making them easier to find," Ms Nolan said.

"NightLink's new home in the Valley will also give passengers more room, shelter and a brighter, safer environment while waiting for their bus."

New passenger information display screens will also be installed at the Brunswick Street entrance to Fortitude Valley station and the Valley Metro shopping complex.

"Fortitude Valley station is one of the busiest stations on the network, and these screens enable us to provide customers with easy-to-understand, minute countdowns to the next departing train," she said.

In typical TransLink fashion,  something now on the website, the day prior  umm tonight actually ...

It is time TransLink's performance was reviewed by an independent enquiry I think.

Does the TransLink board find this non-performance acceptable I wonder?

All good to look after the revellers, pity the same care is not extended to regular commuters.

Indeed.  It beggars belief that this kind of behaviour is allowed to continue!

#Metro

NightLink services should be 30 minutes across the board as standard. Restrictions on the direction of travel should also be abolished.
Lots of other cities around the world have 24 hour bus services, doing these things are the least that could be done here.

Feedback from the drivers this morning regarding new Valley terminus.... Seems it is right outside 2 Strip clubs... Drivers were commenting on the colourful loud conversations they were overhearing from intoxicated patrons leaving the clubs...  :-[

Lol yeah, and IIRC theres an adult store in there somewhere too. Eh, you get all sorts in the Valley, the last two times I've been in there, there have been police involved in breaking up a bit of a scuffle on the opposite side of the road from the station there.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
