Queensland University graduates in demand

University graduates across the state could be on track to secure an exciting career with Queensland Rail, after the organisation launched its new wave of graduate recruitment to fill 25 positions.

The graduate positions cover a wide range of fields and include graduate electrical engineers, architect, data and reporting officer, health and safety graduate, environment graduate and information technology officer.

Transport Minister Rachel Nolan said this was an excellent opportunity for graduates to secure a position in one of the Queensland Government's largest corporations.

"A position within Queensland Rail would provide successful candidates with an opportunity to learn from skilled professionals and carve out a long-term career within an innovative organisation," Ms Nolan said.

"Graduates receive top-level career development and training over a year-long program and are able to build networks and connect with their peers through a mentor program.

Ms Nolan said finding the best employees for the future can be one of the biggest challenges for an organisation.

"Recruiting through a graduate program allows Queensland Rail to provide successful candidates with a foundation of skills and support to set them up with a career - not just a job," she said.

Ms Nolan said the new graduate positions highlighted Queensland Rail's continued growth and demonstrated the organisation's commitment to becoming a world leader in rail initiatives and best practices.

"Queensland Rail has a proud history of appointing graduates, apprentices and trainees and providing them with long-term careers," she said.

University graduates from around the state are encouraged to apply for the 25 positions - two electrical engineering jobs are based in Townsville with the remaining 23 positions located in South East Queensland.

Anyone interested in applying for a graduate position can find more information on Queensland Rail's website www.queenslandrail.com.au/careers. The jobs have also been posted on www.seek.com.au and on various university websites.

QUT has something interesting http://www.bee.qut.edu.au/study/postgraduate/engineering_railway.jsp

I did a similar course of study in Nottingham, although obviously not as in depth (I studied one class which covered most of those topics for 1 semester, versus this is 4 years part time) but it is really quite interesting stuff. Although there is the adage about engineers: Engineers aren't boring people, they just find boring things interesting.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I always thought we found interesting things interesting.

My wife doesn't seem to agree with me.

If only this came a year ago when I was applying for graduate jobs. At the time, I applied at QR, but ended up with an offer from elsewhere.

Yes, engineers find boring things interesting - being a graduate I can understand.
