BUZ 196 -- Yeronga?

Interesting idea today:

BUZ 196 carries over 1 million pax/year. I was wondering if it could be extended to terminate at Yeronga and the frequency upped.

Are you in the one million club?

I actually prefer re-routing it to UQ.  Fairfield/Yeronga service is just as well provided by a reasonable train frequency.  Probably make the 105 serve Fairfield Gardens.

#Metro

Hmm. I thought 104 would do a better job for going to UQ. There already is the 192 service to UQ that does the Gladstone road pickup.
More is needed than just more trains. The buses there aren't good at all, as was revealed when the idea of a bridge came up.
Rail can't reach the river side of the suburb at all, its at least a good 2km away from Yeronga Station.

The second thing is the 196 goes via Gladstone Road and West End, which is a major area and away from the rail route.
I would propose a feeder bus to Yeronga station, but on reflection, a 2km route might be too short to get enough patronage,
it would be easier IMHO just to extend the existing 196 to Yeronga.

Even if it is not a BUZ, it would still be a useful extension.

I think it is funny that the 192 is still running after the CityGlider.  One interesting proposal has been 1tph Corinda-Doomben via Sth Bris.  Beats the 104, 108 service.  The 105 would then be replaced by the 107.

#Metro

I agree! Maybe 192 should just go down Gladstone Road and then straight to UQ!
I'm surprised 191 still runs as well.

105 is a colossal time waster.

Here's the idea. It could just be an extension of 196/197 or if frequency is upgraded a bit, then another new BUZ.
The patronage figures are actually quite good for 196/197. A small diversion and new bus stops are needed so people can connect to
Yeronga Station and the overbridge as well.

Coming to think of it- this would allow the big Yeronga loop to be cut off from Yeronga all together.
To get to Indooroopilly, you would just change at Yeronga station to the newer, more direct 105

Which would make the 105 the 108, wouldn't it?

If there is a Tennyson train service, then I don't see the need for the bus connection to Indooroopilly.

I think, just can the 192.  Highgate Hill service is probably not required.  It is 1.26km along Dornoch Tce between the 196 & 199.  Some people will have a longer walk than 400m, but I think they would need to deal with it.

It could. But there is that little bit where it goes into Stimpson Street/Corso etc as well. I don't know

I can't see that being popular with Dornoch Tce residents!  ;D I see your point though, but how patronised is the 192 service?

Thinking about this one...

Route 196 and 197 are almost identical. Except for two or three streets in New Farm.
196 & 197 could be combined and BUZzed. The frequency is almost BUZ anyway.
Just fill in the gaps early in the morning and late at night.

With alterations to the stop at Fairfield, it should be possible to extend the service into Yeronga via Hyde Road and then bend the route into a hairpin by sending it up Kadumba Street. At this point, it would become a feeder service to Yeronga Rail Station.

Creating a one way terminating loop using Shottery, Fairfield Rd and Kadumba St would allow people to connect to the rail overpass (which is so ugly, it is hideous).

Hmm... this could be permanently routed via Ivory Street Tunnel to speed things up as well.

Some ideas:

A proper bus interchange will allow 196 to be extended to Yeronga Rail Station

Fix up 105 in Yeronga. Cut off the 105 loop forever and extend 196 into Yeronga.
Dual action  :-c hairpin will collect people and feed them to rail
at the tail end of the BUZ route. Just like the Darra 450 one. Drops pax next to the station overbridge.

On the New Farm side of things, permanent Ivory Street routing to speed things up.
Simplfy the route into one high frequency one that goes to two CityCat stops and then terminates at the Brisbane Powerhouse

196 is almost a BUZ. It just needs more night services + weekend to make it one.
Making the stop spacing larger in Yeronga and perhaps cutting one or two bus stops in West End (I am thinking of Browning Street which has 3 stops in it! IIRC) will make it a much faster trip.
