QuoteTRANSLink website upgrade

On Friday 12 November 2010 between 7pm and 9pm, the TransLink website will be changing. You may experience some issues accessing the website while we update our servers.

When the updates are completed, you will notice changes to:

the design
navigation
timetables
web content
journey planner

After the release of the new website, please check your bookmarks and update your links.

TransLink has just released a new design of their site's template. Seems to be a lot faster loading as well. Personally I like the 'Service Status' of the Trains, Buses and Ferries on the main page.

http://www.translink.com.au

What do you think?

STB

Oh thank goodness.  They have finally got stop specific timetables for the stops you want to board at.  I remember when if you wanted the times at a certain stop you seriously needed a camera to take a picture of the bus stop timetable.

Overall, it looks neater.  I haven't gone into it too deeply yet, but have they introduced maps yet?  Or if not, I hope that they can link it up with Google Street View and Google Maps eventually.  Would make it a lot easier to visually spot the bus stop and local area so you know where you'll end up and when to hit the bell.

This is rather an interesting addition to the new look website :-w

I like. A bit different and they change where you find some things. One minor problem I noted was that on the new Infrastructure proejcts page it has the same drop down tabs as it used to, but when I clicked them they didn't open up like the should. Could have just been my internet connection though.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

First impression, big improvement  :-t :-c  Will explore as time permits ..

The font used on the new translink web site does not render well in Google Chrome.

ozbob

Welcome castnerit!  Thanks for that feedback, I haven't got around to other browsers yet.

I've use both IE and Safari, both don't have any noticeable design faults..

It's interesting because Chrome uses the Safari engine, but only Chrome is affected.

I've now also tried Opera, which is okay.

Regarding the coding.  It's shocking!  I'm not a professional web developer, but if you have a look at mine, you get 12 errors all relating to the Facebook Social Plugins, which the validator doesn't recognise.

The TransLink site appears to be a mix of HTML and XHTML.  It has unescaped ampersands, lists within spans and all sorts of other problems.  Hopefully this is "version 1.0" and they're working on tidying everything up.

P.S.  I didn't see the ads until I turned adblock off!

The ads give me the irrits  >:D ...  I can live with the coding, although I expect we are all paying a fortune for the site ....  not a good look TL ...

Tuesday 2:55pm.

I just logged into the new site and was presented with a blank white page in both Firefox and Internet Explorer.  A stunning example of state-of-the-art graphics, interactive multimedia, javascript effects and W3C compliant HTML code this site isn't!

ozbob

I just ran the validation again.

Down to 42 errors, they might be tidying it up ..

It is a pity that some public feedback on the new website was not actively sought before it went live ..  (it might have but I didn't hear anything ).

This is where CRGs are useful.  TransLink doesn't seem to support CRGs ...  some of the coding problems could have been better identified.

Error reported here by RaverRabbit
eg.   https://forms.translink.com.au/site-information/contact-us-and-help/feedback/process  when submitted returns a 404 error page.

It might be still submitting but the thank you page url is wrong.  It is also possible that it is not working full stop.

The validation errors are not encouraging either.

I have reported the above error with the form to TransLink (via Twitter for very obvious reasons ...  :-r )

Why would they do so for the website when they won't for services?

Sunbus610

.....and TRANSLink web people, what happened to the Inner City line train timetable pdf on the new look site???

I believe its not there currently because its out dated(extra trains have been added since its release in February last year)

Although I found the timetable. click here

somebody

Not a fan.  PDF Timetable info is more difficult to access now.  And when you get a result from your search, it doesn't list the suburbs served.  The journey planner is more difficult to navigate.  e.g.  Detailed search results not displayed right away, but requires another click.  Return journey searches not easy either.

And no improvement in the journey planner's logic.

ozbob

Last train services for each line - Quickly look up the last service on your line.

is a dead link ...   ???

I am starting to wonder, did anyone seriously check this site before it went live??
